UC common application

Hey all,

I looked at the search and I couldn't find this so sorry if it has been discussed. I am doing the UC common application and when I copy and paste the essays onto the app the first paragraph won''t stay indented. I saved the files as .txt and copied from there like it said. Any ideas?

UC common application?

You mean University of California, don’t you? They aren’t on Common App.

If you are having trouble indenting, then just add some spacing. Watch for ? marks. Some students have had trouble with those appearing.

SamuraiL,

I guess I misunderstood what a common application was. There is one application for all the UCs and you just check boxes of which ones you want to apply to( and pay of course), so I thought that was a common app. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. So should I just delete all indentations and skip a line between the blocks?

Try here
[University of California - GENERAL - College Confidential](University of California - GENERAL - College Confidential Forums)

It is a single app for all UC schools, but if you ask questions about Common App, people might think you are referring to the single application called Common Application, which hosts several hundred member schools and applications!

Most students are indenting five spaces. I don’t think you need to skip a line and left justify. Try it and see what happens if you put in your own indentation for the lines that are messing up.

I did the manual indent (7 spaces to match other paragraphs,) but when I save it and come back it is un-indented again.

What computer are you on PC or Mac? That is really weird.

What if you log out, clear your cache and log back in?

I’m using Windows 7, and I had the same problem with Ubuntu 11.10.

What happens when you do the space between sentences, left justified? Does that look okay? If so, maybe just do that instead of indenting!

It gets the point across that they’re separate paragraphs, but for a college admissions essay it just looks lazy.

Did you check the troubleshooting section for UC help? Did it have any suggestions?

What about Firefox or Google Chrome browsers? Have you tried those?

I’ve been using Firefox, I guess I could download and try chrome. And there aren’t any FAQs about this particular issue.

Did you copy and paste from Pages? or Word?

I saw something strange like this on a student’s app who was copying and pasting from Pages on Mac this week. Deleting and indenting worked for his app, though.

I’ve copied and pasted from a note pad .txt file, LibreWriter .txt on Ubuntu and Word .txt file. Same result every time.
