UC/CSU with high scores, 3.0

<p>My brother and I are both sending out apps for 2005, he as a freshman, myself as a transfer student. I'm trying to advise him on where to apply (matches, safeties, and reaches.)</p>

<p>His scores:
SAT I: 1470
SAT II: 760 Math 2, 750 writing, taking chem next, should near 800.</p>

<p>GPA: around 3.1 weighted (6 AP classes, the rest Honors)</p>

<p>ECs: Quiz Bowl (2 years,) Pres/founding member of Chess Club (2 years,) Math Club VP/team member(they compete, I don't know much about it, 3 years,) and JSA (1 year.)</p>

<p>He is interested in majoring in physics or engineering. He realizes that he has ruined his chances at top UCs by not achieving in class and not having solid ECs, but he has matured. He wants a UC education, but is also interested in Cal Poly SLO.</p>

<p>Does he have a chance at SLO, or any of the UCs? I'm not sure what's realistic in regard to freshman admission.</p>

<p>That 3.1 is pretty rough, but a 1470 is exceptional. The average is a 3.9 1260 for engineering at cal poly, and a 3.9 1250 for science and math. I'd say he probably has a shot at cal poly, but they don't factor in SAT II's. He'd have a better chance and UCSC nad UCR, i think, since they use SAT II's.</p>

<p>well, they're selectivity is comparable to CP. So I'd probably say maybe, but don't put all your hopes on them.</p>
