Hey everyone (someone suggested I re-post this in the Visual Arts and Film Majors forum),

So I'm a senior in high school, and I found out a few months ago that I was accepted to a number of schools (Pratt, Denison, University of Cincinnati DAAP, and Loyola University of Chicago) I'm still waiting to hear back from Lawrence, Carleton, and Ringling. At the moment, my top two are UC DAAP and Denison, but I have no idea what direction I want to lean towards

I applied to art schools, but scratched them because I want to study other subjects (like Classics). I know that UC isn't necessarily as "highly ranked" as Denison, and Dension has smaller classes and more personal attention, but I also like the urban setting and larger school size of UC...

So, is there anyone at Denison currently that can speak about their studio art program? Or is someone a fine arts major at DAAP? Do you like it? I know that the architecture and industrial design departments are highly rated there, but I haven't heard as much about their fine arts department.

I would appreciate ANYTHING you have to offer :)

nwhitsett,First, let me congratulate you on your DAAP acceptance. It is a hard school to get into.

You have to ask yourself is what do you really want to do with your life? Art and design take a LOT of focus and drive if you want to succeed in the arts. If you are not completely driven to be the best artist/designer that you can be, don’t go to DAAP. DAAP’s programs are generally VERY intensive. It is akin to being the artistic equivalent of a music conservatory.
Also, don’t downplay UC’s classics and other liberal arts. It may surprise you that they have a very decent philosophy department, not to mention they have a number of good programs outside of DAAP. In fact, I would bet that they have more options for majors than Denison.

Knowing recent graduates at both schools…DAAP is by far superior. But it really isn’t fair to compare them since you have apples and oranges. DAAP is forward thinking, innovative, global, and nationally commended. My daughter is looking at fine arts, graphic design, photography and Denision doesn’t even reach the maybe list. For my son the poly sci major, yes it would be, but he chose UC for Aero Eng, and then switch to poly sci.
