how come on my fin aid package it doesn’t have a work study option? I was offered work study in all of my other UC fin aid packages? They also expect me to contribute $3,500 when my EFC is 0, and no other UC’s expected me to pay anything. Is this a mistake or is UCD stingy? They offered me the worst fin aid package so far.

I got accepted as of 4:36pm today.

Major: East Asian Studies.

@Dad2twins
I think you misunderstand. UCD expects us to pay the 3800 and will not allow us to take a fed low interest loan for that money. We also have to take loans beyond the fact that they want the 3800 dollars. You might have been confused and thought we were expected to take out loans for the 3800, and that is not correct. And whatever your cranky attitude is about in forcing kids with no money deep into debt should be taken off this thread. This is a thread for positive students who have worked hard, not bitter parents. And by the way, the tuition costs for my parents were a few hundred dollars. Today we must pay 14k just in tuition at a public school. Also note that I have a perfect GPA and will attend only public schools, and leave with a BA and Massive debt, far beyond anything my parents had to pay for their education.

I won’t be attending, so heres a spot for the waitlisted!

how come they didnt list cal grant A??

Work study is technically not financial aid…becauase you have to get a job and that money goes to your tuition…it doesnt guarantee you a job…

So if they did or didnt offer you work student, you still need to find a job no matter what…

but why are they expecting me to pay 3,500 out of pocket when the other UC’s I was accepted to are not?

Everyone is complaining about the financial aid they are receiving…stop blaming the school for being cheap!!! Each school has limited money for students and it all depends on the school…if they didnt list a cal grant, maybe you got another grant very comparable to a cal grant…

@mr.mustache what does your financial aid package list…please provide the item and the amount…

@northbeach…if you could also provide your financial aid package…i may be able to see whats going on if you have a concern…

As far as the cost of education our parents had to pay…that is no where comparable to our situation now…now, education is so well sought after, and every popular, that it is such high demand, making money very tight…you have to take into account that for the school to function they require materials from numerous companies that, due to the high cost of materials, the school needs to make some profit from its purchases…also because of the high cost of living…the price of an education is well worth it…

Many students that are “occupying the uc” are making very unrealistic demands. They want the regents to eliminate student debt and make education free…this is absurd!!!

@uchappytrain
seems davis is under more financial strain than the other UC schools? anyway, it is ridiculous because we would be eligible for fed low interest loan for that 3800 dollars, i they just moved that cost to another column. UCLA estimated my “cost of attendance” so low, that it will be very difficult to survive on the money i can get. even though they were very generous with my grants. but i really needed to borrow a little more than they are estimating. i mean gas is 5 dollars a gallon.
