@Northbeach So UCD doesn’t offer more than one loan like the other UCs? I wouldn’t mind taking out another loan for 4,000, but I can’t pay that out of pocket. Can I take out a bigger loan or is it only what they specify?

Reflection
Strengths: strong upward trend.
Weaknesses: Didn’t finish any prerequisites and also wrote about another school in my PS.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I didn’t research anything about the major I applied for and chose not to do any prerequisites. Davis is a fantastic school, and whoever was admitted is definitely a strong applicant and deserves to be there, but I really have my heart set on Berkeley.

General Comments: So proud of everyone who has been admitted! Such a strong and smart group and Davis made some great choices! To whoever hasn’t been accepted, keep your head up! We’re all going to end up exactly where we’re supposed to be!

@UChappytrain… can you provide us with your financial aid package, I might be able to help you with why you are getting such awards…and it depends on why you were only offered one loan, everything is taken into account…

@ uchappytrain: not true. I was offered 2 different loans for the 2011-2012 year (I’m a current transfer at UCD). It depends on your financial aid package.

@ northbeach: while transfer students next year are allowed to purchase a parking permit (since Primero Grove is where you’ll be living if you choose to dorm), I don’t recommend using your car to get around on campus. Most people, including professors, bike around on campus or just walk, and besides, only a few roads around the UCD campus are available for cars to drive through–the rest are meant for bicyclists or UC-operated vehicles. Save the car for weekend excursions if needed, and you wouldn’t have to pay gas so much. And if you bike or take the bus, your transportation cost would be 0 while you’re on campus, minus any fees you may pay for going home on Thanksgiving, winter, or spring breaks.

@UChappytrain (davis is generous and goofy at the same time)

we need to get in touch with the financial aid office because the way they have it listed on our financial aid packages (mine sounds identical to yours) would mean that we would need to find the 3800 outside of the federally approved Low Interest student loans because it would be “above” our estimated “need”. maybe that is an error on their part. makes NO sense because i have zero efc and a perfect gpa. private loans might be available if you qualify. but i am really thinking it is an error. seriously. UCLA, UCSB, UCSC all offer me enough grants and low interest federally approved loans to cover the entire cost of attendance. and no, i can’t possible pay 3800 dollars in cash plus move to a new town, etc. etc… like you, i just need to take a loan to cover my school costs just to survive. and like many others, i do not have parents writing checks for me. interesting that davis opted to do this for some students, but i am pretty sure they will adjust it for you if you contact the financial aid office and let them know you cannot pay that 3800 dollars and really want to attend the school. they should be able to move that portion to federal loans because we are way below the limit in loans that they are offering us on the line below. good luck! and don’t worry too much, i am sure you can attend. maybe they are just on the edge with their federal loan qualifications this year. so the noise makers will get the extra money, call them on monday, or send an email today. keep us poster. congratulations on acceptance! davis is a world class school.

note: technically we should qualify for 12,500 in low interest federally approved loans for the junior and senior years while earning a BA. davis listed 5,500 in loans on my FA package, i an guess they did the same for you. that is just too low. all the other UC schools approved 7,500 in loans for me. good luck my friend!

@sopranokitty
congratulations on your admittance! toot toot. such a good school. thanks for the note about parking, not attending davis this fall, either UCLA. or UCB if they admit me next week. don’t think i asked about parking on here, but you are so right to mention it because i have been checking UCLA parking permits and they are expensive and parking has been on my mind. you must have mental telepathy. will you attend davis?

@ sopranokitty: Uh, I already attend Davis. I was accepted for the current 2011-2012 year. It’s why I know about the campus.

@sopranokitty
oh, wonder why you thought i was interested in davis parking? just curious! haha

If you look at the time stamp of that post, I posted it at almost 3am, so I was dead tired and when I glanced at your post where you mentioned the cost of gas, I saw “Davis” at the beginning of the post, “$5 a gallon” at the end of your post, and failed to notice UCLA. Hehe.

@sopranokitty
haha, that is wonderful. after my own heart. at least you did not spend two hours posting that it was “friday” when in fact it was thursday, like i did a few days ago. now that was entertaining.

@sopranokitty how does housing work for transfers at UCD? Is Primero Grove the only dorms transfers will be placed into?

@ rDPurpleHaze: Yes, Primero Grove is the only dorms transfers will placed into. I’m a current transfer student living in Cuarto, but next year, Cuarto’s going to be for all freshmen (which makes me sad, even though I’m living in an apartment off-campus next year :C ). Primero Grove’s a really nice dorm building, though, much better than Cuarto’s. So I’m jealous of you guys. D:

If you don’t want to dorm, there’s the SSA (Single Students Apartments), which you can read more about here.

@northbeach thanks so much!! I’m emailing them right now and I’m going to call on monday. I’ll let you guys know what they say after I get a response

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don’t know, don’t care. The acceptance is all that matters anyways! :)[/li][/ul]General Comments: Also accepted to UCSC and UCLA. Berkeley, SD, SB, and Irvine still pending.

I was accepted, but the FinAid they’re offering is worse than what UCLA was giving me. Had they done a better job with grants I would have gladly went to Davis.

On my conditions of admissions it says that I have to maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher. Are they talking about the semester GPA or overall GPA?

Maintain Academic Performance

Complete all transferable in progress or planned courses with a GPA of 3.20 or higher, with no grade less than “C,” in addition to being in good standing at each collegiate institution that you have attended.

Note: You may verify the courses that have been determined transferable by viewing your transfer credit summary at MyAdmissions.

^ mine says to maintain at least a 2.8. Typo on your part? what major are you? I’m doing engineering. And I think its just for the semester

^I double checked and it says 3.2. I’m a microbiology major. Maintaining an overall GPA of 3.2 isn’t the problem. I’m just concerned about the semester GPA.

Edit: On my TAG contract it says - You had a UC-transferable GPA of 3.82 when your UC Davis TAG was signed. You must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher for all UC-transferable units taken prior to transfer enrollment.

I’m guessing they’re going off by my TAG agreement.

yeah I’m pretty sure it’s the semester. If your overall gpa was a concern they wouldn’t have accepted you

Well this is going to be problematic. I honestly don’t think I can pull off that 3.2 with the courses I’m taking this semester.
