Did any transfers get looked at for there alternate major choice? I applied for Biological Sciences, which is very impact so it wasn’t much of a surprise when I didn’t get accepted into it. However, I’m guessing that I wasn’t admitted for my alternate major Nutrition either since my portal stated that I wasn’t admitted into Davis. I’m just confused by this because when I was applying I read that they would admit you under your alternate choices if your first choice was impacted and you obviously qualified. Nutrition is not impacted at all, so I thought for sure that I would get in under my second choice. Does anyone know if alternate majors are looked at frequently? Also my GPA is a 3.9 through Modesto Junior College so grades weren’t the issue. I’m guessing that they didn’t look at many alternates this year.

it’s really bugging me that UCD is expecting me to pay 3,800 out of pocket. Is there a chance that this is a mistake? Has anyone who is attending UCD had their financial aid change? I mean, my parents make 18,000 a year. It is totally ridiculous that they are asking me to come up with almost 4k on my own.

I have some question about the Conditions of Admission, please help

It says:
Immediately have the following final official academic records sent in a sealed envelope:

Transcripts from any college(s) you have attended in the past, other than your current school
(I had attend UCD summer session in 2011, do I really need to send a UCD transcript to UCD?)

High school transcript
(Do I have to go back to my high school and ask for transcript?)

Advanced Placement (AP) Examination score(s), if taken
(I took a AP physics test in high school senior year, how do I find the official record?)

You don’t have to pay the $3800 all at once. In fact, that’s for the span of the entire school year. I’m expected to pay $11k since I inherited some money from my late dad, but I only pay $4000 per quarter (with financial aid covering the other $4000, and that’s just in UC grants and scholarships. I don’t take out loans unless I REALLY need to, and so far, I haven’t yet. I’m not rich either–my mom makes 32,000 a year, which is considered low-income). There’s also the Deferred Payment Plan (which you can’t sign up for until September, unfortunately), where you can pay off any outstanding fees after financial aid has kicked in in 3 installments. In fact, I’m currently signed up for the Deferred Payment Plan, and I pay about $1,500 per month per quarter compared to $4000 all at once, and that’s only a SMALL part of the $11k I’m expected to contribute.

@ desklamp: see if your high school has their transcripts available through an online database, so that you can use that to get the transcripts to UCD faster.

@sopranokitty
why would we pay anything, at all the other UC schools we can take loans out for up to 12,500 dollars. and UCD is only offering a fed loan of 5,500? that is bogus. seriously. we only get to attend school once in our lifetimes. and the loans are available via the FEDERAL government, not even state level. i am not attending UCD but if i were, i would just tell them to increase my loans to cover the cost of attendance so i can maintain my 4.0. even UCSC offered loans and grants to cover my attendance. it is bizarre and i really wonder what is going on with them. i have a zero EFC. no help from my parents. etc. etc. and they wanted 3800 dollars from me beyond loans? that is retardo. haha. i am sure that the financial aid office will increase the loan amounts for kids who call in and tell them they do not have the money.

that’s funny, the total amount of loans I was offered was $7,500. I have $0 listed for student self-help expectations for the current school year and $11k for “student contributions,” which is “the portion of the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated by the Federal Government through the FAFSA that you are expected to pay toward your total cost of attendance” according to [this page](https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/BudgetDefinitions.html#Contributions) and is entirely different than “student self-help expectations”, and it “assumes that undergraduates are expected to contribute to their educational expenses at UC Davis. You can meet this expectation with loan and/or earnings from employment”. Keyword is “assume.”

And you don’t have any money in a savings account or anything like that? Did you also get scholarships (at the very minimum, the Entering UG scholarship) in addition to those grants from UCD?

My financial aid looks like so: http://i.imgur.com/L56JB.png

it has to be a mistake. it just has to be. I don’t understand why UCSC and UCR would give me a free ride and UCD would not. Some people are even saying UCLA offered them more financial aid than Davis. I emailed them 3 times already lol hopefully they respond soon or they’re going to get a really b1tchy caller on monday.

Am I the only one that is getting the “YOUR FINANCIAL AID AWARD PACKAGING IS NOT YET COMPLETE” message when logging into “my awards” despite requirements listed as “satisfied?”

@uchappytrain: Yeah, UCSC and UCR are giving me basically a free ride as well. Let us know what they tell you please. Hopefully it all works out in the end.

okay i’ll let you guys know what happened. I think its a mistake since sopranokitty got 7k+ in loans. they have to offer us the same amount.

heres a screen shot of my aid:

How come UCD doesn’t have cal grants? and you’re missing about 2k in work study happytrain. You should make up some excuse so they put that in there too. WTH is student help expectation?

happytrain did you say you’re going to live on or off campus? Because your award has you as off campus. Basic living should be like 13k if you were on campus. They give you less grants that way. And your EFC is like 0-4? Then you should only have to pay like 4 dollars out of your own pocket. Something is wrong

Accepted:
Managerial Economics
GPA: 3.5
So stoked! lol

@UCHappytrain
don’t stress out about it. they will work with you. just maintain composure and a positive outlook. and yes, UCLA offered me a lot more in aid and grants than Davis. just be a squeaky wheel, but nice, and all will be well. but the financial aid office will be closed for the weekend.

@mafioso
maybe this is because you are in the mafia? haha. okay, just kidding.
my link had the same message for a while. it will chance once they
complete your financial aid unofficial offer. good luck.

Did anyone get wait listed? My gf did which is weak because we were considering going there together. Anyone know what happened to most of the people on the wait list last year?

@MrHyde
well, i am not attending, so that is one spot! good luck.

@philosoup I indicated on my FAFSA that I would be living on campus, so yeah I just realized they mistakenly listed me as a commuter. Every other UC I applied to listed me as on campus so I don’t know what Davis’ deal is. I guess i’ll just have to wait until monday to find out.

@northbeach thanks for the advice and congrats on getting into UCLA!!
