How do you know Davis doesn’t look at major prep? Can you provide a source please. Not trying to be an a**hole, just curious.
Turns out, I actually did better than I expected during Fall 2016.
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.57
Pre-Req’s: Done by Spring
IGETC: Done by Summer 2017
TAG: None, didn’t have unit requirement
Essays: 8/10?
EC’s: Philosophy Club, Political Science Club, part-time job, some volunteer work.
UC Davis is currently my number one option. I’m really nervous I won’t get in because I still need to complete 17 units by Spring. It’s a heavy workload, but I proved I can manage it by receiving straight A’s during Fall 2017 with a similar 17 unit workload, a part time job and 2 clubs.
Major: Communication
UC GPA: 3.73
Pre-Req’s: All but 2 done
IGETC: Done by Spring 2017
TAG: None
EC’s: High school football coach, working part time, some volunteer hours
I am very nervous about being admitted because I will not have 2 prerequisites done, but I don’t think Communication is an impacted major so I should be alright in terms of pre requisites.
I took 16 units in the fall, 6 in the winter(through other JC’s then the one I am at since they do not offer a Winter session) and another 13 this spring. Just trying to hit that 60 transferable! (I have 22 more units from a previous 4 year school).
Anyone have any idea if I am well qualified or not? any feedback would be helpful!
Thanks a lot!
that person doesnt know what theyre talking about
I got into UC davis my senior year in high school but decided to play college soccer at a small liberal arts school in new york. but my major is biology and realized if i wanted to go to med school im better off at a UC than a small liberal arts school. Im currently a freshman and applied as lower division transfer to uc davis and uc irvine for the fall of 2017. anyone know what my chances of getting in are?? decisions dont come out til late april and im just so anxious to know
@natalializ: You have picked a selective/impacted major to transfer into as a Lower Division Transfer so your chances are slim to none. UCD does take Lower Division Transfers in a few majors in the College of Environmental Science and Agriculture. See posted information from the UCD website:::
Transferring Before Reaching Junior Status
If you plan to apply before earning junior-level status (90 transferable quarter units or 60 transferable semester units) you may apply to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in non-selective majors (see a list of selective majors). The College of Letters and Science, the College of Engineering and the College of Biological Sciences accept applications from junior-level transfers only.
I would also say UCI would be a difficult admit, again with applying to an impacted/selective major.
Good Luck.
@nataliaeliz UCD often has sophomore openings in Nutrition. They had it this last application period. A friend from CSU applied to it as a sophomore last Nov, and also chose Bio at a couple other UCs (can’t recall which ones). She said the majors open to sophomores were listed as drop-downs in the application, so assuming you applied as a sophomore I think you would only be able to choose from that select list.
Of course, i have no idea how my friend will fair but she has a high GPA and a lot of medical-related ECs, so I assume she stands a good chance of admittance. And since you got in from high school and seem to have sports cred, those are added bonuses. Good luck!
@Gumbymom @Ohm888 yeah biology at UCD wasn’t available to even apply to as a lower division transfer so I applied as a Nutrition Science major and to UCI as biological sciences… that’s why I was curious about my chances of getting in with those majors
I called the campus a while back, and he said that it wouldn’t be hard to change majors. I applied with a TAG for Econ at the last minute, before I saw Man. Econ. Would it be hard to change from Econ to Man. Econ? I’ll post my stats:
West Valley College Transfer
Major: Economics
GPA: 4.0
TAG: UCD - Economics - TAG accepted
IGETC: Will be done in Spring 2017
Major Prereqs: For Econ - Will be done w/ Calc II in Spring 2017, but didn’t take Linear Algebra or Multi-Variable Calculus. Otherwise, mostly done.
For Man. Econ - Mostly done, but haven’t taken any comp. sci courses and will be done with Calc II in Sp. 17. Also, I’m taking Business Law right now, but it doesn’t show as an equivalent to UCD.
ECs: Movie Reviews on YouTube. HS volunteering, not a lot - NHS Tutor and Leo’s Club.
Essays: I think they’re decent. I had a former HS teacher and my cousin who has an MBA look at them. He had a similar process in getting into St. Mary’s MBA, and he wrote a lengthy email to me w/ feedback. I was quite surprised on how much input and time he put into it.
Other Schools applied: UCB, UCI, SJSU, Cal Poly SLO.
EDIT: Also, I just activated my UCD account today because it slipped under the email radar. Did I miss anything deadline-wise from Dec. to now? I did do the Transfer Academic Update.
Hey everyone. I have a question/concern that I’m freaking out over a little bit. So my TAG was accepted for Davis and I was looking over it on the TAP website again. I noticed that on my TAG acceptance page it says that I must indicate on the official UC Application under the “CCC Transfer Admission Program” section that I have a UCD Transfer Admission Guarantee.
Well, on the UC Application I didn’t note that I have a UCD Transfer Admission Guarantee and I left that section blank. Is this going to impact me at all?
@cyclicalhype I don’t know, but I suspect they want to know because it’s two groups - the TAG committee and regular admissions. So regular admissions wants to know if you got accepted, in case they were planning to reject you. I would send an email to admissions and say something like you were sure you checked it but looking over copy you see it’s not checked. Tell them you were accepted via TAG.
As I said, I have no idea but I assume they simply want to know so there isn’t a glitch. So be sure to let them know.
I have no credibility to speak on this subject, but I’d say you are well qualified! Your GPA is pretty high according to these stats for the Communication major at Davis: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
My UC GPA is currently 3.68, I’m also a comm major, and I have all but two pre-reqs done just like you (which I’m planning on completing in summer). I TAGed and had no issues doing so. Don’t worry! @stanufb
thanks a lot! your info was very helpful!
thanks a lot! your information was very helpful!
for Davis are we able to complete units in the summer to count towards transfer? I thought it was only in the fall and spring semesters? I could be wrong! @doihaveashot2016
Major: Communications
Current College: Irvine Valley College
Overall GPA: 3.8 (Low because of C in pre-calculus my first semester)
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: UCSB – approved
IGETC: Completed as of Fall 2016
Major Prep: Mostly done by the end of this semester (SP17); however, some courses weren’t articulated so I guess technically not complete.
College ECs: Student Ambassadors Program, Undergraduate Research
HS ECs: Mock Trial (4 years), Mock Trial Captain (Senior Year), Key Club for 3 years (VP – 10th Grade, Lieutenant Gov.’s Assistant – 9th/10th)
Employment: Nothing major related but I do work ~20-25 hours a week at a fashion school and a retail job.
@ccstudent1517 How did you know that your TAG for UCSB was approved? I thought they don’t do notifications until mid march with regular decisions.
@cyclicalhype HEY! The same thing happened to me about not listing my TAG in the regular application. Have you contacted Davis yet to see what they said? I just emailed them and waiting for a response. I’m hope its not too much of a problem because our TAG was approved and we just forgot to list it on the application but I’m still worried! Hope they respond soon to me!
