UC Davis 2020 Waitlist

Got waitlisted by Davis, Economics. Guess Act 27 and 5 Classes taken in UCSC just aren’t enough.

For the waitlist essay, what are they looking for? Anyone have ideas on the essays?

I think that the essay is just a way to weed out anyway who’s just accepting the waitlist just because. 200 words isn’t going to tell them anything.

Does anyone know if you can appeal to get off the waitlist? Or is that just for some colleges?

@helicoptermomsUN appeals are only for rejected applicants, but you can double check on their waitlist website (Davis’s, I beleive it mentioned it). This is due to the fact that waitlist is basically an invite; id rather go through the waitlist process than an appeal.

@Lovehate420 it seems that Davis went through Tufts syndrome this year to protect their yield, so I have a hunch that what @helicoptermomsUN said is right and that they are going to allow a good amount of waitlisted people in. BUT on the off chance that they do care, they basically want to see that you are committed to attending UC Davis.

@Onikage34 if Davis accepts me off their waitlist, I would HAVE to attend Davis right? I couldn’t just reject their acceptance and go to UCSD (not that I’d want to, as Davis is my primary choice and UCSD is my second, just asking for future reference)?

I assume that people accepted from the waitlist are scrapped from consideration for the Regents Scholarship, no matter how qualified they might be. Is this correct?

@honcho: The waitlist is not binding. You have to SIR (enroll) in another school before the May 1 deadline. If you are offered a spot at UCD, then you accept or decline.

@louisthecat: If you were qualified for Regents, you would have been accepted in the first place but that does not mean if you are accepted off the waitlist, that you not eligible for other scholarships.

I was waitlisted for Computer Engineering (alternate major: Computer Science in L&S) with a 4.0 UC GPA and a 33 ACT. How heavily do they weigh first semester grades for those on the waitlist?

@QuiteAverage90 Nobody can tell you for sure since most of us aren’t the people reviewing applications.
Just assume that they consider everything(12th grade first semester grades+act scores, GPA, etc) when deciding whether or not to take you off the waitlist.

Waitlisted on Friday under Biological Sciences.
Quite disappointing and shocked to see all those around me with lower stats get accepted.
Perhaps my major choice had an impact.

UC GPA: 4.0
SAT : 1860
ACT : 28

Then again, I have friends w/ 33 ACT & almost equal stats get completely rejected with no waitlist offer.

Very confused haha

@jyao729 I heard that College of BioSci and Engi are the hardest ones at Davis, and it seems to be the case with most waitlisted people (I got waitlisted for biomedical engineering)

@honcho In that case, I presume that waitlist acceptance for those majors are probably lower then?
Really not sure why I care that much about this because I’m going for a nursing path and already received admission into SDSU & waiting for USF, but I guess this waitlist just diminishes my hope for the other UCs.

Waitlisted by Davis for Statistics, with 4.07 UC GPA and 32 ACT, 800 SAT2 Math Level 2 and Chinese, not bad ECs and pretty good essays… Now I’m so worried about SD, LA, and Berkeley… (Although they are my reach schools anyway)

Do schools consider senior grades when deciding who to take off the waitlist?

Ultimately, this is how I picture it. UC Davis (like many other schools) is building a mosaic and likewise every student accepted would help strengthen the school through there own talents and goals. However given the vast amount of students who applied this mosaic can only account for so many. To get to my point you probably are going to fill in someone else’s shoes, so yes they want you to update them on your first senior semester grades sorry buddy. I was waitlisted also, its just so tragic!!

Waitlisted by Davis for Economics. ACT 27, 5 courses taken in UCSC and a bunch of advanced math (calculus, differential equation, linear algebra, multivariable calculus), not bad EC (founder of Economics club, Econ lab and notetaker at UCSC). Was invited by Berkeley for recommendation letters.

Waitlisted for biomedical engineering. 4.48 UC GPA (3.98 UW) and 2170 SAT with fairly strong ECs and essays imo. Also got into UCSD (undeclared, didn’t get into BME). When I first got my decision I was surprised, but after researching I feel honored to be considered on the waitlist. According to https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/freshman/otherpaths
the acceptance rate is 8.6% this year, which is awfully low. Lots of rejections among my peers from what I’ve heard. I’m really hoping the waitlist will pull through.
