Davis is a great school. Why don’t more people want to go there?

seet0o: because there are other universities that have better programs in certain fields of major. All I’ve heard about Davis is that they have the 3rd best veterinary program. I don’t know how good their East Asian Studies program is compared to UCB, UCI, and UCLA.

i ll prob go to davis

econ major :):)

I thought Davis had the 2nd best veterinary program?
I’d say that many people do want to go to Davis because of its location. The city of Davis itself is nice, but the surrounding area is boring. Often times you will hear things like Davis is half way between Tahoe and San Francisco, but that’s about an hour drive each direction. It is NOT easy to get out there (trust me, I lived in Dixon which one of the boring cities that Davis borders…barely ever got out to Tahoe and SF). If it wasn’t for Davis, I would not want to live in the area (again).

The other UCs are located in more appealing areas (with the exception of Merced). Irvine, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Santa Cruz are all near the beach. I’d argue that even if UCLA and Berkeley were ranked lower, they would still have more people interested because of their locations - UCLA and Berkeley are both in “alive” cities.

With that said, Davis is a great school. It is my top choice and if everything goes well, it is where I will be next year.

still no result for me ):

got my acceptance envelope in the mail today! all the way down here in socal =)

Me neither! Have you looked at the statfinder admissions stats for your major and GPA? You probably have a good chance of getting in even if they haven’t said anything yet!

@dmitry: do you have the link for that? My major was Genetics and I have a 4.0 GPA however, I am missing Calc II which is one of the requirements.

I don’t know about what your missing requirement, but 2009 applicants with your GPA range (3.9 to 4) have at least a 92% admit rate into the biological majors (which is what I’m assuming genetics falls into).
Unfortunately StatFinder doesn’t allow linking, so I’ve uploaded a generated PDF to Google Docs: [Powered by Google Docs](http://■■■■■■/gKGKgT)
Hope this helps.

@ amsstory: I read last year that Davis was 3rd best behind Cornell and Colorado State University.

hmm…I guess things have changed a little since last year’s rankings:
[Best Veterinary Medicine Programs | Top Veterinary Schools | US News Best Graduate Schools](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-health-schools/veterinarian-rankings)

The top three places probably switch up often.

@dmitry: Wow! I appreciate the effort! Thanks a lot! have you heard from them yet?

My stats: Pending

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.63
No TAG
Did not complete all pre-req.

I just applied to Davis for fun so not much worrying. :P

Rejected!
Major: BS Genetics
GPA: 4.0

I was not really supposed to apply this term but I tried it anyways. I graduated HS in another country and tried to finish all my prerequisites in 3 semesters which EVIDENTLY is not enough. lol. I don’t have Calc II yet and O-chem.

I guess I’ll be at college confidential for another year! lol

Goodluck to everyone!

Rejected

Psych
GPA: 3.7
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: no
IGETC: yes

@ dyepribudoy: I didn’t even finish my prerequisite for Animal Science (only science class I’ve had so far under my belt was general Biology and I haven’t done any higher-level math courses other than Intro. to Statistics that I’m taking this semester), and I still got in, which kind of boggles my mind. You’d think they’d reject me too for not completing more than half the prerequisites required for my major, lol.

@sweetlacecharm: That is great for you! I actually talked to one of the College of Biological Science counselor when I was up at Davis during the transfer orientation stuff and they told me, I am in disadvantage because I started Calc I in a community college. My math series will be complicated because they don’t know the “Real” equivalent of calc II in a semester system to the quarter system and she advised me to just finish o-chem and physics too.

or could be simply, “they don’t want me”. lol!

Rejected, 3.0 GPA with TAG approved and IGETC will be completed by the end of this semester.

Applied math rejected. I don’t know exactly what my GPA is though.
