UC Davis - allergies

I submitted my SIR for UC Davis but am having second thoughts because of my allergies. I have severe environmental and food allergies. Does anyone know how bad Davis can be for allergies? I’ve heard that sometimes it gets so bad that it’s debilitating and that you can barely function. I was admitted on appeal to UCSD so I have that option but the only gotcha is that I’m not guaranteed housing.

i feel for you.....i have pretty bad allergies too except mine are only environmental and it usually only happens during hot/dry weather. when i went to admit day, it was pretty warm and i was fine for a while but as soon as i started walking around my allergies caught up to me. my eyes starting itching and i couldnt stop sneezing, so it was pretty bad for me. when i went to ucsd, the weather was perfect for my allergies. nice coastal breeze to keep dust away from me and it wasnt hot or dry or nething and i didnt experience any allergies. my decision however came down to davis cuz i can deal with allergies once i take my allergie pills and i like hot weather more than chilly coastal weather.

Yeah, aren't allergies a pain. On Admit Day, after you took your pills were you OK. What environmental allergies do you have? Grass, trees? If I was guaranteed housing at UCSD I'd probably go there but now I dunno what to do.

I have some bad enviromental allergies and my eyes were stinging the first day I was in Davis to review the campus. After i took my allergy medication, I was much better as someone else noted.

alergies are a problem in this end of the valley, good luck, get the right perscription.

you are all dorks

i second that.

yeah i know . . . sneezy dorks!

Kids are you sure you are allowed to use the computer.

try eating local raw honey - helps many folks with allergies...

is there some kind of immunization that will help fight off the allergies. When I was at Davis for summer advising my eyes turned red, not itchy, but just red and puffy.

thanks

I think it depends on what you are allergic to. I have a really hard time in SD from all the molds but really don't have much of a problem in Davis. I have more problems in the local area when heading into Sac since they have so many more trees and their air quality has a tendency to be worse than Davis. I take a daily allergy med (zytrec) more because I work in Sac than because I live in Davis.

If you have "hay fever" type allergies to various grasses, pollens, etc., Davis is pretty rough. Normally, my child uses an inhaler once a year. During 1st yr at Davis it increased to every day during the spring. However, loves Davis and is willing to suffer. apparently.

I have bad allergies and taking claritin helped stop them. Also, after I took claritin for the first few days of school I was not bothered by allergies thereafter..
