****UC DAVIS CLASS OF 2021**** Discussion/Decisions

@Gumbymom I updated in their portal. I didn’t email them; I reported my changes on their portal as they had options where we can update our courses. I was limited to 3 courses because high school students can enrol in no more than 11 units at college, and I didn’t know about it before submitting my applicatiob. So I enrolled in 10 units and took 2 AP courses at high school. I don’t have any proof or an email that says they received my changes, however, the changes refelct in my portal. Thank you.

@Sharob: Just call and make sure they are aware of the changes and it is noted on your application, so when they receive your final transcripts there will be no surprises.

@Gumbymom Thank you for ur help.

Hi there! I was accepted in the Department of Biological Sciences

ACT: 30
GPA: 3.67 UW (Idk my UC GPA)
Really good essays, ECs, rec letters

I’m a Korean-American female living in New Hampshire
Still debating on going here … anyone have any good supportive arguments for attending? Trying to convince my parents!

@jkimchi UC Davis is #19 in the nation for Biological Sciences. It’s also one of the top 10 public universities in the nation. UC Davis has a lot of campus resources like tutoring, stress-relief, etc. It’s a very diverse school and everyone is generally very friendly. It’s also known for being one of the happiest UC campuses. It’s pretty suburban and has a college-town vibe going for it. The best thing to do would be to go to decision day next week and see for yourself! I think visiting is usually enough to convince people.

@jkimchi
Well, it’s ranked #10 best public university in the United States! Also, I hear that it has a wonderful, friendly college town feel, if you’re into that. Undergraduate research is very common, as well, which is one of the main reasons why I am about 70% sure I’ll be going there. You can join the honors program and get grants for research, too, which is super exciting!

Decision: Admitted, Undeclared in Physical Sciences (debating on law or environmental engineering though)
GPA: 3.48 Unweighted
Class Rank: 48/600
SAT: 1360 (680 Reading, 680 Math) (only took it once during junior year lol)
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Many EC’s, including Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball, Senior Class Vice President, Key Club, Outdoor Club, Varsity Quiz
Out of State (Las Vegas, NV)
Inner City, Title 1 School, “Victory School”
School is majority hispanic (about 85%)
Essays: Pretty good, talked about my affinity for geography and maps
Ethnicities: Korean/Middle Eastern/White
No scholarships but offered work study and student loans
My question is: Is this school worth it for me to pay out of state tuition to go here? It would be pretty expensive, but do you guys think the education and experience here is worth it?

Result: Admitted
Major in: Biomedical Engineering
GPA (uw, w): 3.75, 4.1
SAT/ACT Scores: 33 (ACT Only)
Class Rank: School doesn’t rank
State (if domestic applicant): OOS (Illinois)
Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Extracurriculars: A decent amount of clubs with leadership in a few and an internship at UIC over the summer.
Essays: Decently strong?? Idk lol. I wrote my essays trying to be a little bit more out of the box over any other essays I wrote just because I really wanted to get into some of the University of California campuses.

@solomon99: If you parents have the money to pay $60K/year, then it is a very good school to attend. But if you and your parents need to take on significant amount of debt, I personally feel that no school is worth it for Undergrad, especially if you are considering Law school or any other graduate school in the future.

Accepted
International Student
1950 SAT
good grades
no APs
very avergae ecs
got in for communications so i think that helped a lot, less competitive major and all

But would you guys recommend Davis UCSD or UCSB for more social science subjects?
