I was not expecting to get in but I decided to go ahead and âshoot my shotâ to see if I could get in. I will not accept their waitlist offer because the campus is too far away from home and I have already been admitted to Cal Poly SLO.
Acceptances: Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB, LSU, University of Arizona, UC Merced, UC Riverside, SDSU, SJSU
Rejections: Colorado School of Mines
Congratulations to everyone who got accepted!
@fairadmin You need to be sure to IMMEDIATELY write a really good waitlist letter. Tell why you want to attend UC Davis, that you are still interested and that it is your top choice! Itâs a yield thing and they donât think youâll attend with great stats!
Look, this might be a little insensitive to ask, but if you got into Davis, are you still good for the higher UCâs? Just wondering cause of the whole waitlist and high stats discussion.
Honestly, so true! Thanks so much for emphasizing, I couldnât have said it any better.
Yes, I believe you can only get in by standing out and my surprise yesterday supports that.
Unfortunately, the competitiveness to get into college is very challenging, so all you have to lose is to be you! The world of society and high school always try to shape us into achieving the way everybody else does.
However, if you think about it-the reality is kids across the entire country are at this high statistical level. I admire people that go beyond, but are they going beyond in the form of the world or the way that best reflects them as a person? I canât think of it right now, but thereâs that quote doesnât be cardboard or something like that.
I am a first-generation college student myself, so it can be easy to compare others peoples âpagesâ to your own, but I believe that as long as you know youâre set apart and act upon it, no one can take that away from you. Either way, if you win some, you learn some and if you lose some, you still learn!
Even for myself- I needed to hear this so thank you so much for sharing your insights and encouragement!
I love philosophy myself!
@CaptainBeckett I was concerned about this same thing, but personally Iâve known some particular individuals with scores such as a 4.0 weighted UC gpa and 22 act. They got into UCSC and Berkeley but rejected at another UC other than UCLA. Itâs all over the board. I donât think that not getting into or waitlisted at Davis is a determinant of having a likely chance of getting into Berkeley or UCLA.
My son was admitted with a Regents Scholarship,
Mechanical Engineering. Same Regents Scholarship at UCSB. I noticed that the schools are liking Mechanical Engineering majors.
4.0 uw, 35 ACT Male, White, Southern California
Decent extra curriculars and sports. No special hook - just a nice, hard working, middle class, smart kid. I think he is leaning towards UCSB. Iâm just happy that his hard work in high school is being rewarded with UC acceptances.
Admitted!

@Gumbymom do you know if they donât get enough acceptances to honors can they contact other students later and invite them? My daughter was really hoping for honors but did not get the invite.
@TCNCmom congrats! I tried to post yesterday but donât think it went through.
@aggiemomtobe: If you are not invited as an In-coming Freshman, then the next option is do to well Fall quarter and top UCD students are than evaluated again and offered an invite to apply for Winter Quarter. You cannot just apply, you must be invited.
From the Honors college website:
High potential first-year students will be invited to apply to UHP during the Winter Quarter of their first year. Application invitations are sent in mid-Winter Quarter, and admissions decisions announced in mid-April.
Rejected, In-State
Major: Economics
UW GPA: 3.69
W GPA: 3.93
SAT: 1440
Varsity Girls Water Polo and Tennis Captain, lots of EC, had a rigorous course load, I understand that my GPA was on the lower side, but do you guys think this is why I was rejected?
My dream school is USC and I have double legacy, do you think its possible for me to get in?
Essays were very strong and personal
@uscplsacceptme I could have been a factor that lead to rejection, HOWEVER, it was most likely not the cause. It could have been alot of stuff like un-unique ECs, socioeconomic background, and if you really âfitâ the UC Davis vibe. Donât sweat it, keep looking up and look towards the future, have faith in yourself!
@speedy36 they probably thought you were too good for them
My son was rejected from UCD. 32 ACT, 4.2 UC GPA, Captain of two varsity sport teams, Student Leadership Positions, tons of community service. He was accepted to Tulane, Santa Clara, and University of Miami with generous scholarships and also was admitted to U of Michigan. So scratching our heads on an outright rejection. Luckily he has some great offers, but now he is nervous about decisions from UCSB and UCLA, which are his top UC choices. I do agree that each campus has a âvibeâ and admissions may have felt he didnât fit in at UCD. But, after submitting his UC app, we were notified he was in the top 9% of CA high school students, so being completely rejected does not make sense. Especially seeing on this board students getting admitted with significantly lower stats. This whole process is a crap shoot. Good luck to everyone, and I agree being rejected or waitlisted from UCD is not a determinant for other UC campuses.
@bayarea7: Being ELC eligible (top 9%) only means that a student is guaranteed a spot at UC Merced, not at all the UCâs and not at a UC for each studentâs choosing. Each UC will use 14 areas of criteria to determine admission but each campus can determine how they use the criteria.
Thank you, I didnât know what the ELC eligible meant. My nephew, a UCLA student, was ELC eligible, and was rejected by UCSB and waitlisted at UCSD. I did not know that until this evening, after speaking to my sister. So hang in there everyone, things will work out!
@bayarea7 did he apply to Engineering? If so, Engineering tends to be more competitive than L&S.
No, he applied to L&S.
