@MommaLue thanks! I only applied schools i like so when it comes to choosing and committing I just cannot make the decision. i’m thinking to withdraw Pitts today bc i know there’s somebody waiting for this seat and my withdrawal probably can make his or her day. but i just am having a hard time to give up!!
From my research (and a husband and some friends that went to SLO), they have a different approach: “Learn by Doing” is their motto. Students are more hands on even as Freshmen, maybe less theory than UCs at the start. That probably is quite amazing for STEM fields of study. My son is Business Admin so very few UCs offer that (many offer various ‘flavors’ of Economics which are great if that suits a student’s interests). My son got into UC Irvine which has a great business school and probably where he will end up since he hasn’t heard back from Cal Poly. Both UCs and SLO are incredible opportunities/options- it really depends on each individual and where they think they would thrive.
I understand how you feel. In the end, where ever you ended up going, you applied yourself and do well, you will succeed. I know that because a person I know well, one of his college professors even said that he won’t make it through his program, and now he is a partner of a company.
Ya you don’t have to necessarily be but I think a 4.4W woulda really sealed the deal.
For Bio Davis is better than either Pitt or UW. Also if you got into UW as pre-bio, you are not formally in the major and will have to compete with others for admission into the major at the end of your 2nd yr. Take heart that all your Uni’s will have great opportunities and have something unique and interesting about them. You have to look at details of the programs and then look at the peripherals like location, student body, etc. and see where you most likely picture yourself
Congratulations on your acceptance!
It’s tough this year. Troy is a very competitive HS and even with an amazing GPA ppl may end up in the 2nd or 3rd quartile. BC colleges typically won’t take all the highly qualified candidates from the same school they have to cut somewhere for something. Take heart that you will end up where you were meant to be and will be abundantly prepared when you do. Best of luck!
Accepted!

WOOHOO!
Son waitlisted for philosophy today. He will probably accept waitlist offer but wondering how likely an acceptance is. @Gumbymom I’m sure this has been posted but are there any stats on waitlists leading to acceptance for humanities in the last few years? On another note we visited SLO today where he has been accepted. I think he was happy with the campus but Davis was right up there with SLO. Of course still waiting on the big guns tomorrow and next week with UCLA and Cal, but with a waitlist at Davis, acceptances at Riverside and Santa Cruz only and denials at Santa Barbara and Irvine those are looking like long shots.
@sconebone , your son sounds exactly like my daughter. She was accepted at many of the same schools (SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, Barrett at ASU, UCSB, UCSD, Michigan and Wisconsin). She chose Barrett and received the same scholarship as your son. Is a freshman and really likes it.
Let me know if you have any questions by PM’ing me.
@ayyyling, I have really good things to say about Barrett. May be a blessing in disguise. Daughter is loving it so far.
thanks!
im guessing it was your unweighted gpa? they don’t tell you why you weren’t admitted though. haha im from oc too i’ve heard of troy
haha my NAME is troy but i got to Valencia HS. Troy HS is about 10 ish minutes from Valencia. Different district but Valencia has IB too like troy. I don’t think Valencia is as competitive but it is still one of the best schools around North OC.
Thank you for the kind words but I must admit my name is troy and I don’t go to the school. It’s 10 minutes from my HS, valencia, but in different school districts. We both have IB and tech program but Troy is still more competitive than Valencia.
lmao i only said that since someone mentioned the school. but yeah ive heard of valencia
Was his gpa low? I don’t get it. I’d HAVE to call and talk to someone just to see if everything was submitted or what in the world he was deficient in.
oh LOLLL i thought it was because you saw my name😆.
Can you share your insight as to why SLO is better than the UC’s? My son was accepted to SLO and UCSC waitlisted to Davis so far. Lots of people just love SLO which is great news that my son go in. I was wondering if you couid help us see why you think it’s better than uc’s as my son will soon weigh his options.
Right now it’s probably UCSC or Cal Poly but for personal reasons, they may not be the most viable ones. My dad isn’t leaning towards either too much and had been hoping got those 3 UCs and the ones left ( tho I know I wont get in). Probably have to go the CC route, or maybe ASU which I got merit scholarship got, which my parents are about given the location and such. Just disappointment all around, but let’s see.
