**uc davis class of 2025 discussion**

Please do not even consider yield protection. As I have stated before, the UC’s can fill their Freshman class many times over with high achieving, qualified applicants. There are just too many students applying to all the UC’s and they do not have enough spots.

You are so knowledgeable! Do you happen to know the stats for waitlist applicants that were admitted to UCD? Like 2019 stats?

No, final stats do not come out until after May 1 SIR date. Sometimes the UC campus will indicate how many applicants are admitted in their decision letter. I have not since such data yet.

These tips are awesome. Davis ranks higher than the other two in general. UW does worry me a bit with this pre-bio thing. I lived a lot places both big cities and quiet towns so I don’t mind the location, Seattle sounds like having way more job opportunities though. Anyways I might withdraw from Pitts today to give the spot out.

By UW are you referring to Univ of Washington? If so, have you ever visited the area? My brother went there for grad school. While the school is great, he never got used to the weather. Maybe since he is from Socal he is a weather wimp but definitely something to consider.

Urgh tell me about the weather. I’m now living in Eugene my third year never get used to the raining. Weather indeed is a thing. I give all UC schools extra points for the sunshine!

I dont want to discourage you especially if you are used to living in Eugene. At least from the perspective of a Californian, my brother felt Seattle was too cold and literally always damp and cloudy. The conditions really affected his psyche. The minute he graduated he went to the polar opposite climate, Arizona!

cannot blame him on that hahaha

We love it there. My daughter is a freshman and couldn’t be happier.

Hi! I talked to you last year. My daughter is a freshman at Davis and we love this school so much. I wanted to post if any one one has any questions about it, but I’m not sure where to put that on this new site lol. I keep just replying to people.

thanks! and thanks to everybody who shared insights with me. Just accepted by UCSD to my first choice major and it’s definitely a game changer right now! guess everybody agrees that this is a better choice for me than the pre-bio at UW seattle, right?

Also glad your D loves UCD. I am sure some posters will start their own discussion about campus life at UCD so you can check this forum and post your insights. Also I would check the College Search and Selection forum where a lot of posters will ask opinions about which school to choose.

Glad to say I’ll be attending Davis in the fall as a freshman as a prospective bio/genetic and genomics major. Looking forward to seeing everyone IN PERSON

Are you considering pre-med?

If you are, here’s our analysis. My teen was also seriously considering pre-med track (and ultimately switched majors), but UPitt was on top of their list. Honors program, great city, merit scholarship, lower cost (to save for med school), proximity and access to research and nearby hospitals, and also a chance at being highly competitive there for great grades (grades being critical for pre-med). Pitt was like the Goldilocks of schools. Everyone seems to rave about Pitt and I haven’t heard anything negative.

Perhaps a campus tour to your top 2 schools will help with the decision. Good luck!

I strong recommend Davis, it’s the number 18 ranked best bio program according to US News. UW is a good few spots behind it

Davis has a very strong pre-health advising team with MCAT prep courses, upper div writing courses where you can write your personal statement, mock interviews and more. A student needs to make the effort to seek out and participate in these programs but they are there if one wants them.

Thanks! So much, Will tell son.

That’s great news! Both UCSD or UCD are great choices. Davis is more rural with a college town and UCSD is in a really nice area, and not that far from the beach. Good luck whichever you choose.
