It’s my son’s first choice, but he’s waitlisted. It’s also the only campus we managed to do a proper campus tour (just in under the wire before lockdowns set in last spring).
Does anyone know the Fall 2021 move-in date for freshmen?
Orientation is Sept 17-21 so move in should be just before that. They may spread out move in over a few days instead of having one move in day for everyone.
Fall in-person classes at normal capacity. Dorms expected to be open at designed capacity.
My daughter just committed last night and now we have to apply for housing by 5/4. Anyone know about requesting a roommate? Does that have to be done by 5/4 too? Also, is there an online place where people seek out roommates in advance?? TIA from a nervous mom
Congratulations to your daughter! The housing application has changed since my oldest lived in the dorms 4 years ago so I don’t want to give you misinformation.
Most students start on the UC Davis Facebook page and then message each other to share contact info and chat off of FB.
Starting to go through the housing application and a little stuck on the “living and learning communities” section. I’m not sure I understand exactly how it works. Are the people in these communities separated from other Freshman by floor? I read some students on reddit saying they didn’t pick one and were randomly placed on the floor of a community. Is it better to select one or not select one? I only saw maybe one or two that might be relevant. @Gumbymom, did your son select one and, if so, what was his experience with it (would you recommend)?
In general, LLCs are set up so that like minded students can live together. It helps create a sense of community and students who feel connected to a community tend to be more successful in college.
If you aren’t interested in a LLC, you don’t need to choose one. You will make friends your hall, in the dining common, in class, in clubs, etc. If there is extra space available in a LLC, they may assign students who did not request the LLC to fill those spots.
My son did not pick an LLC but he did select a student he met during orientation as a roommate. They ended up in Palmero Grove apartments as Freshman (originally Graduate housing) and had 4 other roommates in the 3 bedroom apartment. The other 4 roommates were International students and they kept to themselves. His orientation roommate dropped out winter quarter so not a great experience overall for his Freshman year. He did have some other HS friends on campus so he ended up in their dorms more often than not so he did make friends outside his living situation. I believe an LLC would have helped with the Freshman college transition as @lkg4answers stated since it would have given him a better sense of community. Everything turned around Sophomore year and he had some great roommates whom he continued to live with after moving off campus for the last few years.
Class of 2026 here and I’m wondering if you got accepted anywhere else? I have similar stats as well
Haven’t been on here since apps came out… got into cal poly pomona, csulb, csuf, ucr. Currently at UCR as a Chemical Engineering major.
