We’re in-state but staying at the Country Inn & Suites in Dixon, about 7 miles away.

UCD and UCSB Accepted, UCLA and UCSD waitlisted for S21
I expect D24 will apply to UCD, UCSC and UCSB.

The train station in Davis is a 15 minute walk from the Memorial union. It’s probably not the cheapest option, but you could stay in a hotel walking distance from the Sacramento Station and take the train to Davis for the day (check the schedule!). For students that might be interested, the train continues on towards San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. i have taken it many times into the bay area for work.

There is also the Yolobus: Yolobuses runs through the cities of Davis, West Sacramento, Winters, Woodland, and Downtown Sacramento with stops at popular destinations such as UC Davis, Sacramento International Airport (SMF), UC Davis Medical Center, Sutter Health Park, and Cache Creek Casino Resort.

Which are the “Group of Four” UCs? I’ve never heard that term before. The ones that are most selective? I’ll guess then UCB, UCLA, UCI, and UCSD?

Thank you for asking. I was wondering the same! :grinning:

UCI or UCSB as the fourth?

Why not UC Merced? It all depends on what is important for the student. I don’t think creating more categorizations and applying them blanket to all students helps.

For people flying in or driving South towards Davis Sacramento will have plenty of options, similarly the folks driving North you may want to also look at Vacaville.

I saw the phrase on another site, apparently, it refers to UCSD, UCI, UCSB, and UC Davis, the middle group in terms of selectivity.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hmmm… somehow getting on a YOLO bus lacks appeal :grinning:

Ohhhhh — I would never have known that! Sometimes called “mid tier” UCs. Interesting.
One of the takeaways is that UC has an impressive number of top-rated public schools!

Yolo Bus sounds funnnnnn! I’ve always loved that we have a “Yolo” County in CA. My daughter went to many years of “farm camp” in Yolo County. It was awesome. :sunglasses:

Taking bus will take over an hour for an otherwise 20 mins drive. And not convenient if you want to look around, for example downtown Davis, after the event.

Ah the “middle group.” Some of my favorite UCs!

Not by USNews national University ranking? UCB and UCLA tie at #20 and these 4 are in the 30’s.

After LA and Berkeley, the next 4 schools in terms of selectivity (acceptance rate, which is what was referenced) are Irvine, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Davis, respectively. That’s a separate point than any rankings In USNWR.

My D22 (we are also OOS) was making a similar decision between UW and Davis for microbiology. First and foremost- there is no wrong decision. All three are great schools!!! My daughter chose UW and is very happy there- but I know she would have loved Davis as well. I think it comes down to really digging into what is the best fit for them.
