@iamchickaddd The dorms are very nice but vary depending on which ones you choose. I lived in Tercero in a triple bed dorm (which was actually supposed to be a double, but they were doing construction to build more, which finishes this year, just my luck) which I didn’t mind because I loved my roommates. The rooms themselves are very nice as are the entire buildings. Tercero is where they are just completing a whole new set of dorm buildings as well, which should be very nice.
Segundo is the older dorms, but they have been renovated many times and are just as nice as Tercero. Some people like these more because they are positioned right on the north edge of campus where the stores are, and also because Tercero has cows which have a distinct smell (haha). I didn’t mind the smell and you get used to it the first day. I actually miss it.
Cuarto is off-campus and all of the dorms there are in a configuration where you share a common area with about 7 people or so and you share a room with one person. It is also the only dorm section with a private pool.
Primero Grove is single apartments which you have to request to live in. I’ve heard they are nice but never been inside of them. They are right next to Segundo.
Housing outside of the dorms is varied, and plentiful–but of course the nicer and closer it is to campus, the more expensive it is. Davis in general is somewhat expensive to live in rent-wise; I live in a 4 bedroom house that we pay $2000 a month for, and it is one of the cheaper ones. The usual apartments from from $500 a room if you can find one to $750 for the nicer ones. From the people I know, the average for a room is around $600.

First generation college student, immigrant, school is unique, low-income, Dad’s deaf (though I definitely did not let that overwhelm my whole application, since I really hate to use him as an excuse for anything), series of family unemployment recently
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Weird school. My hooks are pretty numerous. Personal statement #2 is of a unique topic.
[] Weaknesses: I’m not a good writer, and I wrote my personal statements the day it was due (yeah, don’t do that). Leadership position is only during senior year.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Personal statement #2 possibly not serious enough for Davis. And also, probably because my personal statement #1 really focused on my fondness for Cognitive Science… which is the one major Davis doesn’t have. Whoops.[/li][/ul]General Comments: The one time major actually matters in the college application process, guys. THE ONE TIME. But after a few days of just pure anxiety, I did get accepted to UCSD. So all is well. Learn from my mistake though, folks.

Ive heard conflicting data on the wait list acceptance rates. Some are saying 17% are given admittance, while I have also heard that 6,000 waitlists are given out- only 2000 are accepted- and out of those 2000 about 1000 more or less are accepted. Thats a fairly good chance. So does the 17% imply that only 17% of ALL waitlists, regardless of their acceptance of the waitlist offer, actually get in?
I hope that made sense. o.o

How does the wait listing program work?

For those of you waitlisted, here’s an article from the Aggie on 2009’s waitlisting stats. http://www.theaggie.org/2010/06/02/uc-announces-admission-decisions-for-waitlisted-students/
Sorry I didn’t find a more recent one, but I’m sure a quick google search could clear things up. My guess is that the chances have gone down though, seeing as Davis is growing in popularity.

2013 Frosh Waitlist Davis

Waitlist - 6,600 waitlist offers went out; 2,024 students opted in; 1,030 were admitted.

Appeal - 800 appeals received; 25 students were admitted.

Any idea on what their acceptance rate will be this year?

Is UCD, the only mid tier UC that doesn’t require you to maintain a senior year weighted 3.0 GPA to keep your admission? I didn’t see that in their conditions. Is this true or was it just an omission?

I thought it did. Huh, I will have to read it again – or maybe not. I don’t want my kids getting ideas… :p

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably my academics and my extra curriculums; I dont think my personal statement was particularly great.

When will UC Davis release their waitlist decisions? And when does UCD usually release appeal decisions (for regular rejected students, not waitlisted students who appeal after getting rejected)?

really late but…
Status: Accepted
Major: Undeclared physical science
UW GPA(soph/junior): 3.6ish (sophomore year was terrible- 3.2 UW)
W GPA around 4.0-4.1
ACT: 28 (34 english, 33 math)
essays: okay
ECs: good, but not incredible

Why I thought I got in: super strong senior course load; took all JC college classes (Calc BC, Physics 1A, UCLA extension Philosophy, Econ 1, Multi-variable Calc, Political Science 1, English 1C, Photo 1) [earned A’s in all so far]

For anybody who is who is still a junior, sophomore, or freshman still in high school or is a parent of one, I strongly recommend taking JC college classes or extensions. For me, I started a little too late to get into UCLA or Berkley(my sister started as a sophomore and got into LA) but for those who are just beginning high school I highly encourage you. It is not as difficult as you might think and colleges look at these classes as AP courses if not higher. High school was miserable for me and I know also it can be for a lot of other people. Taking college classes, surrounding myself with incredible professors and more motivated students, really turned me around and put me in the position I am in today. I did not write this to brag about my stats (because there is nothing to brag about); I just wanted to help people like me my sophomore year, miserable and unmotivated, to regain a passion for learning and increase their chances for admission.

Good Luck to future applicants and congratulations to those already admitted!

@ucadmitted They release them after May 1st- when they know how many accepted students actually plan to enroll.

@bandisthelife why so late? Last year they released all decisions before may, including the waitlist and appeals… It’s so inconvenient because the SIR deadline is May 1.

@UCadmitted They said to SIR to your second choice school. Its annoying because ill lose any drposits I make for my second choice if I get off the waitlist. Ugh. It is frustrating.
