UC Davis is a leader in interdisciplinary study, offering more than 100 academic majors and 86 graduate programs. We are the only UC campus with schools of Law, Medicine, Education, Management and Veterinary Medicine.</p>

UC Davis received $544 million in research awards in 2005-06, an increase of 8 percent over the previous year, or 82 percent over the past five years. The campus ranks first in the UC system and fifth in the nation in non-federal research expenditures, reflecting the “real-world” applicability of its research. </p>

<p>Alumni achievers: Our alumni are exploring new frontiers from space to hip hop. We have two of 100 astronauts in the NASA space program ? Stephen Robinson '78 and Tracy Caldwell '97. Gift of Gab (Timothy Parker) '95 and Chief Xcel (Xavier Mosley) '94 of Blackalicious, as well as DJ Shadow (Josh Davis) represent some of the biggest names in West Coast hip hop. </p>

<p>UC Davis enters its final year of a four-year reclassification to NCAA Division I status in 2006-07, continuing a transition that began when the University announced its decision to join the Big West Conference and NCAA Division I in 2003. During the remainder of the reclassification, UC Davis is adhering to all Division I rules, including those governing scheduling, and will become an active member of its new division and new conference beginning with the 2007-08 academic year.
UC Davis capped a tremendous championship stay in Division II in 2002-03 by capturing the prestigious NACDA Directors' Cup for NCAA Division II for the sixth time in eight years and the fourth year in a row. Previously known as the Sears' Directors' Cup, the award signifies the most successful athletic program in the country. UC Davis, which also won the award in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, never finished lower than second during its eligibility for the award. </p>

<p>UC Davis added NCAA Division II Championships in women's rowing and softball during 2003, helping send the Aggies to Division I on a winning note.</p>

<p>Approximately 800 student-athletes compete for UC Davis and are majoring in 87 different undergraduate programs and three graduate programs.</p>

<p>UC Davis sponsors 14 sports for women, 12 for men after adding women's golf to its varsity program in 2005-06.</p>

<p>Currently under construction is the UCD Academic Conference Center. The planned UC Davis Academic Conference Center facility will occupy approximately 1.5 acres, consist of approximately 75,000 gsf (55,000 asf), and will include a restaurant and pub; lobby, gift shop, and pre-function space; a ballroom; support space; meeting rooms; and office space.</p>

<p>Not necessarily, RPI is a very highly regarded engineering school. It is located in Troy N.Y. which is quite different than the environment you would find in California. Fit might be a concern. It is also quite a bit more $. If you are OOS for the UC system and RPI offered you a strong package it could easilly be less expensive to attend RPI. If you are in state in California then the cost of a UC would be hard to beat, even with aid from RPI.</p>

<p>UC DAVIS RESEARCHERS AWARDED MORE STEM CELL FUNDS
March 16, 2007</p>

<p>(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) — California's stem cell agency has awarded another pair of grants worth an estimated $5 million to UC Davis School of Medicine scientists conducting regenerative medicine research.</p>

<p>Researchers Alice Tarantal and Mark Zern were among 29 scientists receiving approval for grants today from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), whose governing board — the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC) — considered 70 proposals that will focus on human embryonic stem cell research.</p>

<p>hi, i'm trying to decide on a college. i got into ucla, uc berkeley, ucsd, and uc davis. davis is offering me a regents scholarship with automatic entrance to the ISHP (integrated studies honors program), which includes rooming at miller hall. i'm planning on studying premed, and i can't decide where to go. which would be best?</p>

<p>i toured ucla and davis. i'm visiting berkeley officially this weekend. i liked both ucla and ucd's campuses--they're different, but both are really nice.</p>
