UC Davis Engineering Student

Hello all, was hoping to get some insight into this. I was accepted to UC Davis Mechanical Engineering program and from what I can tell is that it requires a GPA of 3.3 under conditions of my acceptance, but my GPA was already below that when they sent this to me with my updated classes from my Fall semester.

My question is, if my GPA stays below this, lets say at around 3.1 will my acceptance be withdrawn? I really want to go here, this was my goal since I decided to go back to school and got pretty excited until I released the conditions.

Also, I did apply through tag, but I was hoping they realized that my grades dropped and would just get accepted through regular admission. Any insight would be great or if you need a little bit more info about my app, let me know thanks.

Yes you will be rescinded if you do not meet your conditions for admission.

So even though when they sent me the email saying I was accepted and they had all the info for my current classes that showed my GPA was not 3.3 they will look again and realize when I send in my official transcripts with my current classes on then and see that my GPA is not 3.3 they will still rescind there offer?

Just doesn’t seem very professional to me at all. I guess one way to find out for sure is to just call them…

well If you got the acceptance you are all good. but there are some exceptions. there is a minimum gpa that you will have to maintain in order for you to be in good standard. im most universities, they want you to maintain at least a 2.0 gpa in your last semester(All C’s or better) as long as you fill in that requirement you should be good.

mm i didnt got in to civil engineering!!!
had a 3.46

Just do not take my word…yeah call them to make sure …

It doesn’t seem like you TAGed. If you tagged into Davis for your major, then you would need to maintain a 3.3 GPA to transfer. But since you were accepted through normal admissions, then you have nothing to worry about. Just get Bs this semester and you should be perfectly fine.

I did tag, so I know that requires a 3.3 gpa, but let me clarify something as well.

My transferable GPA is 3.2, but my over all GPA is 3.46 (I had to take a lot of prereq’s to get a lot of my classes since I didn’t really making through high school and just got my GED. ) So for my fall classes I submitted my grades on time, and which is how my transferable GPA got to 3.2 (got all C in a 17 unit load it was a tough year with going to 3 different CC and an 1.5 hour commute every day) which they would have had before they made there decision on my acceptance I would think and my tag would have been voided since I was required to maintain a GPA of at least 3.3.

So what I am concerned about is that the Conditions of Admission state" Complete all transferable in progress or planned courses with a GPA of 3.30 or higher, with no grade less than “C,” by the end of your spring term"

I’m already below that and there is now way I will be able to get up to a 3.3 unless they are counting my nontransferable GPA, which in that case I will be fine.

The reason why I came back to this posting is that I got very little help from the admissions, they told me to go and update my grades so my GPA is adjusted and well my grades are updated and my GPA should already be adjusted, which makes me think I will be fine or I just got a hold of some one that was too lazy to give a real answer on what they expect from me. Maybe it was my assay I wrote? It was pretty good I think, I came from no high school to completing some really hard classes in pursuit of mechanical engineering degree at an age of 32… Also some others from my classes said it was because I am white and not many white people go to UCD for the engineering program, lol.

If I’m reading this right, your tag was approved back in Nov. because you had a 3.3+ correct? Then after the TAU, your GPA dropped down to a 3.2 because of the Fall grades. Is this right?

The reason they went ahead and accepted you is because they don’t know what your Spring grades are. You dropped to a 3.2 but UC Davis is aware that you can still do well in the Spring to bring it back up to a 3.3+. You even quoted it in your last post:

As long as you finish out the Spring term with an overall UC transferable GPA of 3.3+, you’ll be fine. Your essays, race, and overall GPA have nothing to do with it. You need a 3.3+ by the end of the Spring to honor your side of the TAG agreement. If not, they can possibly rescind you.

Thank you, I figured as much and yes tag was approved and I was above a 3.3 at time of tag approval. I didn’t really take the race thing very seriously, thought to my self that would be kind of ridiculous, I guess I’ll just go through the process and hope for the best at Sac state and UCD.

No worries. I don’t know if they rescind your admission though. I’ve heard they may just review you as a normal applicant instead of a TAG applicant. Also, if they do rescind you, I’m pretty sure they give you a chance to explain why your GPA fell. If you talk about the 3 community colleges and the constant commuting, that could be a compelling explanation. I’m not 100% sure though. You should call UCD again.

Figured I would update, so I was told by a very nice person at the admissions office that I would be getting in if as long as my GPA doesn’t drop, and even if it does drop, as long as it doesn’t drop below a 2.8 I still will most likely get in, but it will go through review.

I would have to get at least 1 D to have that happen which would automatic disqualify me anyways, which wont happen anyways.

From my understand is that they accepted me already, so as long as I don’t really mess up, which I wont I will be fine, UCD here I come!!

Good to hear :)

Thanks for updating this thread.
