I was accepted into the UC Davis College of Engineering and I am thinking about accepting. I am waiting on Irvine and Cal, but I’ve heard about the relaxed and college town feel of Davis. Can anyone give commentary/insight on the UCD Engineering program and the school as a whole? Is it a boring/fun campus, atmosphere, food, etc? Is it hard to obtain internships/jobs from UCD?
I loved my experience at Davis and in engineering there. It has a fairly laid back atmosphere where the students are all incredibly smart but also very chill. It was a much better fit for my personality/learning style than the highly competitive atmosphere at Cal. I’ve heard Irvine is also similarly laid back but not as much as Davis. There’s a lot of opportunities to get involved with student clubs and do research.
It is a very large campus and there’s always something happening somewhere, but it is also in a very small town where not a whole lot is happening anywhere. The food in the dining halls (at least when I was there) was really good for dining hall food. There’s a growing amount of food options in town; niche chain restaurants like Ike’s sandwiches, Halal guys, Blaze pizza, etc have been opening branches in Davis in the past couple years so its definitely getting there.
Davis is very much a college town and the prices for food/rent are fairly college-student friendly.
Jobs/internships depends on your specific major. Davis tends to have companies from both the Sacramento and Silicon Valley/Bay Area come to recruit and there is a career fair specifically for engineering students held every winter.
thank you! I’m glad you had a great experience @hisllama
