@everyone, what other UCs have accepted you/are you waiting on?

Davis was the only campus I applied to. Mainly because I’m an intercampus transfer from UCSC.

Oh snap. Big day Friday then!

Haha yeap! Been waiting for this moment for a little less than a year now. It feels really really weird… I figured that a year of waiting would go by really really fast (which it did, because this is my first year in college, so the experience is still novel for me). But then there’s these last two days that’ve been going really really slooooooooooooooowwwww lol. Kinda counter-intuitive.

Applied to UCSD, UCI, UCLA, UCD, and Cal.

Accepted to UCSD (Roosevelt), and UCI. Excited to hear back from Davis though! Once I heard from UCSD, Irvine was out the door, and if I get into Cal i wouldnt be able to say no. But between UCLA, UCSD and Davis? Im not so sure. UCSD’s poli sci program is usually ranked the highest, UCLA has the name recognition and it would be fun to live in the city, but Davis would probably have the best internship opportunities since its so close to sacramento.

Opinions anyone? UCLA Vs. UCD Vs. Cal?

@cannnonball nice I’m a poli sci major as well! I applied to SFSU (backup), UCLA,UCD, and UCSB

Got into UCSB and SFSU so happy about that. Still want to see if I got into LA/Davis though! I’m pretty much in the same spot as u! Except I didn’t apply to SD… I heard it has a very good poli sci program but I also hear the campus is dead and not really fun… Between LA/UCSB/Davis I’m not sure where to head either lol

@Cannonball

I applied to those same exact UC’s! haha. Congratulations on your acceptances to UCSD and UCI! I haven’t received any notifications from any of them yet (Obviously Cal, UCLA, UCD haven’t released their decisions) but I’m from northern california, the Bay Area specifically, and I’m definitely leaning toward Cal. UCD is my last choice, I have been there numerous times, but I still don’t “love it.” It’s HOT, in the middle of NOWHEEEERE (Not sure about Irvine), and smells like cows all the time. Their academic statistics are good, but for me it’s about location, location, location. I do like that the rent for apartments/rooms is much cheaper (also probably due to it being in the middle of nowhere). But UCD would be my last choice.

My sister went to UCLA for PoliSci (hella years ago) and she loved it, she’s getting her Ph. D. right now in San Diego and she loves it there too! I’m not from SoCal, but I’ve visited LA and SD and I personally like the environment of SD. It’s not as diverse, but it’s definitely not as crowded as LA. LA for me is very busy (fast-paced like the bay area), and has lots of traffic!! (SoCal residents may be used to the traffic, but it’s definitely different from The Bay). In regards to prestige, both are definitely well known world-wide but LA probably a bit more famous.
Depending on your future aspirations, LA has a really high caliber graduate programs (UCLA Law for example), while I’m not too familiar with the UCSD graduate schools. I guess it just depends on what type of person you are. If you like to party and have a great social life then LA! If you like hot weather with beaches and a slower living (Like Hawai’i =)) then SD! If you like stinky cows and hot ass weather with no surrounding water, then Davis.
You can always do summer internships at david since it’s so freakin cheap to rent month-to-month there. Hopefully I didn’t sound too biased, but someone has to keep it real!

Best of luck and congratulations again on your two acceptances.

@wordofteekz geez way to ruin Davis for me! Lol

@jrlovesseattle hahaha it’s just my opinion. It has great academic statistics, the school is wide and great for biking. It’s very diverse and a whole bunch of my friends go/have graduated from Davis and have gone to Medical School, Law School, New York for some other Graduate school, etc. But every single time I visited them, it was freaggin’ hot! Annnnd smelled like cow manure. That’s just not my type of scene! And the Bars/Clubs/Night-Life were also not my personal scene. (I’m a bartender, SUPER-biased in regards to night-life).

If your heart is set to go there, then go there! =)

Wow you guys brought up great points about each school… But for me I also applied to the same schools and got into ucsd and waiting for la and Davis but thinking… The competition is killer over at those schools! I was wondering if Davis has alot of competition academically? Cuz I wanna go to grad school and need decent grades!!

@wordofteekz

Just joking haha. I fully get where you’re coming from. It is very small town atmosphere. I live in fresno where it gets to be like 105+ in the summer so I’m used to it. BUT that’s kind of a downer of Davis (for me)… It reminds me of Fresno too much and I’m kind of looking for something different. So yeah definitely not 100% sold on it yet. But I would like to add it to my admitted list
you seem pretty sold on SD?

@basedgod 1) you have a beast of a username I should have put that for mine
2) I think SD and LA definitely have a more cutthroat academic competition than Davis. But their names are somewhat heavier on a resume so I think people take that into account as well. In my head I am thinking I can do pretty well academically at Davis or SB and ill not do worse but probably be studying alot more at LA/SD/Cal (obv). All opinion tho so take it w a grain of salt!

@jrlovesseasttle

I really wanna get into UCSD, but I wouldn’t mind UCLA or UC Irvine. But UC Berkeley is my number one choice, I work full-time in Downtown Oakland (15 minutes away from Berkeley) so the commute for me would be excellent. I would not have to start all over and find a new apartment, etc. I totally understand the “new environment” you’re looking for. San Diego would be a much slower paced environment (with Beaches!!) compared to the Bay Area and that to me is also appealing.

@basedgod Depending on your future aspirations (whether or not you’re going to graduate school) going to Davis for your bachelors and attending another university (which high statistics for your major) for graduate school would be a good option if you’re worried about your undergraduate gpa/academics. Unless you’re 100% sure you’re going to do well at a more competitive school, or you’re only stopping at your bachelor’s degree–I would attend the easier (but still high in prestige/academic) school then apply for the harder school when doing grad school. Davis is not as competitive, which is totally a plus! UCLA and UCB can be very cut-throat.

Bhahaha thank you based god. Uc Davis is my número UNO choice. :)

@word oh nice! I didn’t have all the pre reqs done for SD and I didn’t want to stay at my cc! Sounds pretty nice tho. Yeah Cal is hard to pass up it being the number 1 UC. What is your major/gpa if you don’t mind me asking.

I do not have a competitive GPA, ahaha my major at Cal is Integrative Biology with a 3.32 GPA. I am an older full-time returning student, and have a trending grade (you don’t even wanna know what my gpa was before). I am also a recent cancer survivor and mentor for underprivileged and minority students. I hope to be a cancer researcher to help younger adults tackle the physiological effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and maybe one day find an alternative solution to chemotherapy. (Since the side effects suck!)

I know my GPA is really low so I’m not really banking on it. I applied to the colleges that take the more holistic approach, (the ones that actually read personal statements) I’m hoping my “story” and what I’m about and want to do is enough to back up my really low GPA. But I also have learned to live and appreciate life to the fullest, which ties into why Davis is my last choice. I can’t see myself living, even if for two years, in a place where I will not be completely happy or satisfied. (hahaha, I’m soo opinionated).

What about you? What’re you majoring in and your gpa? And where is your dream choice of college and your future aspirations?

People that think Davis is in the middle of nowhere have never been to the middle of nowhere.

This is so random but I just registered for transfer admittance day when I didn’t even get in… Hahaha what does this even mean… Smh they should just send out our letters already :/

@basedgodomg415: Being able to sign up for Decision UC Davis doesn’t mean anything. We went over this in the Trick Thread hahaha, and a rep over the phone confirmed that anyone can sign up for the event.

I still dont understand why they sent that letter to me in the mail yesterday…(And I wonder why no one else here got one) Maybe a friendly UC Davis Employee wanted to give me a hint? Haha :)
