@roslyn If you passed your AP, you’ll get units toward transfer. This site is good for finding out how many units a passed AP course will count: http://ucapcredit.com/
My family is big into band - my two older brothers both played alto sax in the UCD Marching Band-Uh! I play the trumpet, but haven’t played in a band since high school (been playing guitar & piano…can’t march with those!). If you get into UCD, the Band-Uh! is something you should check-out to join.
@DavisCowsRule Yeah, I heard that I get credit for all my 3’s which puts me under 30 units in order to attain Junior-level status! And all of the classes and AP’s I have taken are requirements for the IGETC so I am sad about the big likelihood of not getting in this year but glad to know that I am on track to transfer for fall of 2016!
And no way?? That is awesome! The band program is amazing! The halftime shows must be so fun to be part of!! I am sure that you haven’t forgotten how to play trumpet completely. It’s like riding a bike most of the time. You never really completely forget. Haha but yeah I don’t think a piano would work for the marching band! xD
I know the glock is completely different than either guitar or piano but it is more hands-on too!
I will definitely check it out! Thank you so much!
Sorry to bother, @DavisCowsRule How is the philosophy department at Davis if you have any personal experience or know someone who does? As usual I googled it but came up empty
@Outerhaven Philosophy is my alternate major - The only person I know who was a philosophy major at UCD was a friend of my brother’s who had transferred from SJSU a few years ago. He liked the department, but that’s about all I can tell you -
@Outerhaven Looked up the philosophy dept. on DavisWiki, thought it’d tell you more about the classes and professors…though it hasn’t been updated since 2012. It is a small department compared to others at UCD -
Which reminds me - DavisWiki is a good way to learn more about Davis & the campus from locals, though some of the postings are a few years old: https://localwiki.org/davis/_explore
A little earlier in this thread you guys were talking about the “financial aid trick” in regards to seeing your admission decision early. According to most this “trick” is not available anymore but I wanted to ask anyways. When I log into the MyAwards portal, the initial page says “Your access to MyAwards for the 2015-2016 aid year is currently restricted.” but when I click on awards it says “You do not have financial aid for the academic year you selected.” The rumor is if you were accepted it will say you do have a financial aid package. So, has anyone seen that they do have financial aid? Or is everyone seeing the same message?
I know d-day is just a few days away, but thought I’d ask anyways as my nerves are killing me.
@sammycatt I just called a current UCD student about this, and he then checked his awards for 2015-2016, and it also said “You do not have financial aid for the academic year you selected.” He said it probably means that the awards won’t be posted until May.
I looked at the My Awards to see what people are talking about, even though I did not apply for aid. The site let me in and had links for applying for FAFSA. I don’t think this is a good method for “reading the tea leaves” on admission. Best to just relax and make various alternate plans for whatever happens.
@Nirsimha You got into UCSD - You have TAG for UCI. You have a 4.0 in one of the most popular engineering majors… Don’t worry - relax - think happy thoughts -
@starkali If I were to guess, I’d say you will definitely get into all the CSUs in any case. The 2.9 makes it a toss-up with the UCs, especially if your grades dipped in the past year. Sociology might be harder to get into at a UC - there’s a better chance with women’s studies - it has less transfers. I don’t know your whole story, and the admissions at the UCs will take that into account. I kinda have doubts about UCB & UCLA, 50-50 odds for UCD & UCR & UCSC, and all the CSUs are thumbs up.
Just went back to page 1 and read your details with the 4 year and ECs, and that you are a local person (Sacto - what was your CCC?).... So, I think of the UCs, UCD is the best bet. Looking back at last year's transfer thread, you can never tell sometimes how they decide. So, just know you have those CSUs in your pocket, and don't worry about the UCs - you might get a good surprise.
I’m at Sac City. I wonder if I should have applied to women’s studies or African-American studies as my primary major instead… I’m more interested in the other two, I just had more prereqs completed in sociology.
