UC Davis Financial Aid Requirements

Hey there! I’ve recently committed to UC Davis and was checking out the MyAwards page, and I have become confused on two requirements. They are called:

“Authorize up to $200 Prior Year Debt paid w/ current yr aid”
“Title IV Fund Authorization”

I’ve asked my counselor what these were and she said to contact UC Davis about it, though I would like to see if any other students or parents know what these are before I call. Both of these requirements were due on February 21, which is before I got the admission.

If anyone could explain these and what will happen when/if I authorize/decline would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you are accepting that particular loan/aid, yes you do have to authorize. Don’t worry about that due date yet. It will change, and you have time to discuss with your parents which aid you want to accept and therefore authorize.

@luvskat Thanks for replying, but which one are you referring to for authorization? I’m an incoming freshman, so I have no prior debt to UCD; would I still need to authorize that?

You don’t have debt now, but if you plan to take out loans for your financial aid, you will have debt. Or if you have books and class fees/health service fees to pay as you go throughout your year. It just means leftover money will be used to pay previous debt. If you don’t want that, you don’t have to authorize that one. You will have to agree to Title IV funds if you plan to accept any federal aid, including loans.

@luvskat Ah, thank you!
