UC Davis for Computer Science?

I am about to go into my senior year at high school and I am starting to think about which university I want to go after high school, I have decided to major in Computer Science. My top choice is UC Davis, which is a great school, but I recently found out that the Computer Science program at UC Davis is not accredited by the ABET (source: Untitled Page). So now my question is, is the ABET really important for Computer Science? I know that it is very important for EE/CE but not sure about CS majors. Also do big companies like Google look at ABET accreditation when hiring programmers?

It’s not as big of a deal for CS as it is for other more traditional “engineering” majors.

Some would go so far as to say it doesn’t mean anything.

While I wouldn’t go that far, I would say that a place like UC Davis has a good representation as a strong school, so a lack of accreditation won’t be nearly as much of a problem as it would be were you attending, say, Navajo State Liberal Arts College in CS.

There are lots of good CS programs that aren’t accredited. There are a lot that are. Perhaps you can compare the curriculum at UC Davis to those of other universities whose programs are accredited by ABET…

Yeah I don’t think it would matter whether or not CS is accredited since it’s technically not a traditional engineering major. However if you do plan to switch to Computer Science and Engineering, check to see if that’s accredited because that accompanies engineering in the program.
