Has anyone else got an email that wants them to visit the campus for “Aggie Senior Weekend”, or the “Aggie Day Trip”? If so, what does it entail? Do all accepted freshmen get it or is it invite only?
Your questions should be answered on this link and it is by invitation only:

My son who will be graduating from Davis this summer was offered the Aggie Senior Weekend. He was flown from Burbank to Sacramento in April and stayed in the dorms for two nights and the experience pretty much sealed the deal for his attending Davis. He also mulled offers from UCI, CSULB, UCR, SJSU. He met people during the visit that he decided to room with his first year at Davis. I would say accept the opportunity.
That being said, my son who applied to Davis and was accepted Friday got an email tonight also inviting him for a free university paid Aggie Weekend, just like his older brother.
I am not sure how they identify who they invite, but I suspect since both of my sons are URMs from an inner city schools system in Los Angeles, that it is for diversity recruiting.
The one person from our HS that got the offer was also an URM. The trip sealed the deal for her as well.
I am so confused - I also got that offer. But does attending that program commit me to UC Davis?
@myfavoritepet: No to your question
What are URMs?
@lilaclily: URM= Under represented Minority
Hi! So I’m actually going to be a mentor AND a host for Aggie Senior Weekend this year! Aggie Senior Weekend is hosted by the Student Recruitment and Retention Center, which is a center at UC Davis that gives a space to marginalized communities on campus… It’s a unique experience for marginalized students to actually spend nights in the dorm, receive tours, experience interactive workshops, listen to student panels, etc. We basically just show you what Davis has to offer, and what resources URMs can take advantage of, but no pressure in committing!
@luvskat Thank you for clarifying the program.
I have a question for whoever can answer it. If ethnicity or being an URM does not count during admissions decisions, how are they are able to immediately send out invitations for the Aggie Senior Weekend to those accepted? Do they make their decisions first and then after the fact go over the accepted applications again and search for what each student marked their ethnicity?
I don’t believe it factors into the admission decision but after a student is offered admission, the tables turn and now the schools try to woo the students. They have elaborate open houses, phone calling campaigns, and other overnight events to try to convince you attend their school. UCLA has different overnight weekends for things like women in engineering, LGBTQ, and various ethnicities. SLO has a Poly Cultural Weekend. I believe UCSC and UCSB also have ethnic/cultural events for admitted students.
