UC Davis! Is it your first choice?

UC Davis is my first choice for a UC and I cannot wait until they send out decisions. A month seems so long, but at the same time it will go by so fast.

Anyone planning to go to UC Davis this fall? I've been there a few times to see a few friends. Such a huge and beautiful campus!

UC Davis is my first choice, but I’m not holding my breath about getting accepted.

Hopefully we both get in! What major did you apply for at Davis? I applied for Managerial Economics!

It’s my first choice. I applied for computer science.

Environmental Toxicology.

Chrono, did you tag? Also a fellow Man. Econ. applicant.

I believe UC Davis decisions came out today

Yeah I tagged! AND ANOTHER MANAGERIAL ECON MAJOR? WOOT! Hopefully we all get in! I’m down to room / live with people who look through this board. I can tell we care about grades and school a lot haha

OH And only Freshmen decisions came out today, so only freshmen know.

Also Computer Science is a great major!! GL derse! :D

@BocaAlban If you’re talking about freshman decisions then yes, they came out today.

As a person that is close to Davis and drives by it very often may I ask what draws you to it? I’m not knocking it I’m just curious as to its appeal.

Well, for me…

Davis and Berkeley are the only schools that have majors specific to the field I want to be in (toxicology). Berkeley is not really in the range of possibilities for me because of my GPA.

Housing is cheaper in Davis anyway.

I’m in southern California now, and I want to relocate to northern California. I like that Davis is between San Francisco and the Sierra Nevadas.

UC Davis has an equestrian center, which is a huge selling point for me.

I have a road bike and would be stoked to live somewhere where everyone bikes.

I’m hoping the close proximity to Sacramento will give me more opportunities as far as government internships / jobs.

Davis has a Masters program in Forensic Science that I am interested in as a back-up graduate school option.

chelsiemorning : I am sorry to break it to you dear but there are absolutely NO job opportunities in Northern California. I lived in Natomas Sacramento all my life, Nor-Cal has the highest unemployment rate. I transferred to UCSD and jobs came rolling to me ( I now work in an Oncology lab and get 10.50 an hour!). I got into Davis , but I chose to get away from Northern CA because my friends attending UCD are super bored all the time and there is honestly nothing to do around the city of Davis and Sacramento for that matter. San Fran is like 2ish hours away (the same distance LA is from San Diego). But I guess each to their own… just letting you know that there is NOTHING in Nor Cal except explore farms… unless you like that :/.

Uh, yeah. That’s cool. I understand that you don’t like the place you grew up in. I am originally from a small town in the desert where the unemployment rate probably far surpasses a city like Sacramento. My friends just graduated from Sac State, and they loved it up there. I think we are going to have very different opinions just based on the fact that you are much younger than I am (I’m 25), so we’re probably looking for different things. And also, I already have a lot of job experience and would not be particularly excited about 10.50 an hour. I personally do not like San Diego because it is full of surfers and Republicans, and the downtown area is (for the most part) pretty lame, as it’s just a lot of clubs and such, even though there are some good restaurants. To each his own.

omg, haha I’m the same as you chelsiemorning. I’m currently living in a small town in the Bay area, and Davis is my first choice because they have an equestrian center and a good program for communication major that I was told by one of my instructors at my CC. It’s basically a college town and they do have lots of job internships opportunities too. I’m dying to know if I will get in or not. I got into SDSU for Journalism and it’s my third choice after UC Berkley. I’ve never been to San Diego yet, but I know friends who live there complain that there are too many republicans and they wish they lived in Nor Cal. Haha, I’m just saying, I personally won’t take that into consideration for choosing where I want to go to. But I do want to go to UC Davis/ Berkeley and stay in the Bay area because I love the city of SF. At least these areas are an hour and a half away from home. I think it’s not too far away or close. :)

Yes, sir. UCD has been my first choice. But I really do not know how possible they can accept me with my poor stats. 3.35 gpa and major in economics, NO TAG. I’ve searching for chances of UCD, but it seems like that only few people in this forum post their stats of being admitted as Econ major with no TAG. Someone wanna give further information about this?

@Chelsie “I like that Davis is between San Francisco and the Sierra Nevadas.”

I live in the Bay Area. SF is overrated unless your over 21, but the Sierra Nevadas are underrated. Tahoe can get a bit pricey, I highly recommend Bear Valley.

I also applied as a Managerial Econ major, but not really considering Davis because they don’t offer accounting courses. Most likely going to UCSB for their Econ & Accounting major.

Davis is my first choice for A UC, while Cal Poly Pomona is my first choice for a CSU

Seeing this link Really helps a lot [West Coast Schools by Salary Potential ? PayScale College Salary Report 2012-13](http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report-2013/west-coast-schools)

I might end up choosing Cal Poly in the end… UCS cost 16,000 dollars more than a CSU in a 2 year period, and this link shows that Cal Poly students make more salary right out of college than a UC Davis student with only just a Bachelor’s degree

Based on last year’s transfer decisions thread, it seems we can expect decision notifications starting April 19th or 20th for UCD. It’s on the later side in the transfer application process, but it’ll hopefully be worth the wait.

UCD was my first choice for a few months, but now I changed my mind for UCSC. I honestly don’t know what I want. Both schools have their pros/cons. UCSC has the most amazing campus and 5 unit courses(I’ll graduate on time), but it doesn’t really have my major. UCD has my major, but it has 4 unit courses(I’ll have to take 16 units a quarter to graduate on time) and I feel like it’s way up north in the middle of nowhere. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do.
