I've been told numerous times that the engineering program at UC Davis is not strong and that the program at Sac State or SJSU would be better- despite these two schools being considered low-tiers universities that lack the prestige of a UC.

I understand that UC Davis is primarily known for biological sciences and agricultural sciences, but their engineering program is still highly ranked and has national and international acclaims. I just want to clarify if UCD's engineering is just over-hyped or that their program is as good as their ranking shows. Is it true that the engineering program at Sac state and SJSU is better than UCD?

Just some backstory of my educational goals:
I am a transfer student who is studying mechanical engineering. I plan on transferring to a university that offers me the most opportunities and growth yet still give me a lot of hands-on work that I can apply to the working force. Much help is needed. Thank you!

If anybody can mention the pros of UC Davis, that would be nice.
I’ll throw out some details including stories and general notions out there (I’m a current Sacramento State student, sorry if there is any bias and yes, we believe our education is much better than Davis’ which is more of a bio school).
Some stories:
–I’ve heard of a student that transferred from UC Davis to Sacramento State and found that the professors and curriculum was much better at Sac State.
–A ME professor at Sac State that has also taught at Davis thinks Sac State is better because the curriculum he had to teach at Davis was junk. (This came from a friend of mine in ME)
–I’ve heard from high school teachers and my own parents talking about employers such as Intel rather hire a Sacramento State student over UC Davis because we actually get that hands-on technical education that prepares you for industry. What is taught in classes and labs are exactly the skills that you could be using in a job… Why the heck do we need to learn how to work with these confusing devices (FPGA) people ask? Because someone in industry wants you to learn this. That’s the answer.
The Intel employer rather hire Sacramento State students because UC Davis students require time to be trained, and simply in terms of money, it is more profitable to take the Sacramento State students.

Other info:
Sacramento State and SJSU tuition-wise will save your bank at roughly half the tuition cost, and even more if you can live off-campus with your parents.
At Sacramento State, you’ll find core upper division classes with an average of 30 students and depth-concentration classes with less than 20 people and the professors will get to know and work with you on a personal level. At Davis, the class sizes are probably much larger and you’ll be getting more theoretical stuff at the UCs instead of practical work.
Sacramento being the capital actually is one of the best places to get some engineering internships to help secure a future career.

Also, if I’m right, UC Davis is one of the lesser engineering schools out of the UCs.

As a final word, I am enjoying my time (including a social life) at Sac State and am the only person I know that chose it over a UC school (or Cal Poly) and it actually turns out to be pretty good in engineering despite being considered a lower tier school. SJSU also is good I know.
I thank you for being the first non-Sac State student to actually recognize Sacramento State for their engineering because many people overlook their program and don’t give the school a good reputation

Thank you for the reply. I will definitely take it into consideration.

Also, I want to apologize for the bad writing. I shouldn’t have wrote it so late.

Is there anyone who have an argument for Davis? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Don’t dredge up a dead thread to post something asinine like that. In fact, just don’t dredge up dead threads at all.
