UC Davis or Community College

I got accept to UC Davis but my 1st Choice is UC Berkeley. Should I go to community college and transfer or go to UC Davis. Please give me some advice. Thank You!

UC Davis is a great school, everybody I have ever known who went there absolutely loved it. Go there, do your best, and save UCB for grad school.

I agree whole heartedly with UCLA Band Mom. Get the full 4-year UC experience. You won’t regret it.

Community college doesn’t guarantee Berkeley and Davis is an alright university. I would just go to Davis.

… that there might be a higher acceptance rate from cc to Cal rather than from Davis to Cal…

The mean gpa of those who xfer to Cal from cc, ~ 3.7+, would be higher than those from Davis to Cal, say, ~ 3.5…

The main reason why Cal will have a higher acceptance rate from cc is not because of gpa, but rather, cc students have their classes in order and are ready to jump into their majors; whereas those from Davis might apply after one “unsatisfied” year there, without a lot of planning and forethought. (Btw, I like Davis a lot, so I think one could like it once enrolled there.)

So, to ilc111, make sure you have everything in order, which means two years at Davis and take all your pre-classes at Davis and see if you haven’t grown to love UCD.

I would say it depends on the major. If it is not an impacted transfer major, and you are dead set on Berkeley(at all and full cost) then CC is the easiest way to get there. However, in the real world UC Davis is a great school. You should be proud of yourself for being admitted to a good school.

Let’s see a top 50 school in the country or CC? hmmm ? You can’t be serious. Go to Davis. This is why I am a big advocate of heavy parental involvement in these decisions.
