I Intend to be a biology major and med school is the goal.

I'm under the impression that the undergrad school you go to doesn't really matter for med school. To avoid all the competition for research opportunities/professor attention/grades at Berkeley do you think it would be more reasonable to go to Davis?
I'm feeling like Davis is better for pre-meds, and socially its great too, right? Feedback?

FWIW, if I were pre-med, I would go to UC Santa Barbara. Beautiful location, great social scene, and not very competitive, meaning you’d be the cream of the crop there.

TheBanker, I actually go there quite often… I’ve lived here for 17 years! Lol

TRUST ME, I LOVE Santa Barbara, but I want to get out of here…

If i didn’t live here I would definitely consider attending, but I didn’t even apply

sigh

How about UC San Diego? About Davis vs Berkeley, you really have to visit there to get a feel for the environment. Some folks think of Davis as the middle of nowhere…but some prefer it to the busy urban feel of Berkeley. Only you can make that decision.

The only california colleges I applied/got accepted to were Davis and Berkeley, most of the colleges I applied to were out of state. But Im asking in terms of academics, would pre med be more suitable for Davis or Cal?

I suspect you already know that Berkeley is the better school by far. If you think you are mentally ready for that school, then go there. Then again, you could probably concentrate more on your studies at Davis where there isn’t much to do and competition is less.

Definitely visit both areas and see for yourself. IMO pre med is difficult whenever you go and you might as well go to Berkeley where the brand name is better.

Yeah I’m just worried about MCB, I know it’s an impacted major. Is IB also an impacted major? because that could definitely be a possibility for me. I know I’m capable of performing well, I’ve just never competed, I’ve really never had to. Well I’m doing an hour and a half tour tomorrow at Cal (5 hour drive for an hour tour… Makes sense) so hopefully I’ll get some more information tomorrow. Just wanted more opinions on the subject

MCB is not an impacted major.

[Declaring the MCB Major](http://mcb.berkeley.edu/undergrad/major/major/declaring/)

“MCB is not an impacted major. In order to declare the MCB major, you must have completed Biology 1A/1AL and Chemistry 3B (or be concurrently enrolled in them and past the early drop deadline for Chem3B; for Bio1A, you will need to have at least taken the first midterm and received a C or better), have at least a 2.0 overall gpa, a 2.0 gpa in the lower-division prerequisites for the major, and know which emphasis you will declare. (Note: As a transfer student, you must have completed at least one semester at UC Berkeley and have received a 2.0 GPA in the courses that you’ve taken for the major.)”

IB is not impacted either.

http://ib.berkeley.edu/undergrad/major/declaring.php

In order to declare IB as a major, students must have completed
the math series: For students who enter Cal as freshmen in fall 2012, this means either Math 1A/1B or Math 10A/10B. For students who were admitted to Cal before fall 2012, this means Math 16A or 1A or its equivalent
Chem 1A/1AL - General Chemistry
Chem 3A - Organic Chemistry
Either Biology 1A/1AL or Biology 1B
At the time of declaration, you must be enrolled in or have completed Chem 3B OR the 2nd biology course, and be passing at the mid-term status point.
The average GPA in courses for the major must be > or equal to 2.0.

One thing to keep in mind - Davis is on Quarter system, Berkeley on Semester system. A lot of people prefer Semester.
