Hi, I am an international relations major and I can’t decide between UCI and UCD…I know that UCI only has an international studies major, which is fine but which is the better school? They both seem very similar so is there anything that stands out in one of them? Thanks :)

i visited both campuses already, and what i saw was that UCI was…cleaner. They are both extremely beautiful campuses but both have a very different atmosphere. UCD seemed more peaceful and down to earth. But UCI’s building were better kept and more organized. I found UCD’s building were very separated and i had to walk a lot to get from one place to another. They gave us a map but it was still very confusing.
UCD pros:
Very beautiful
seems more secluded from everything
nice people
bicycle system
UCD cons:
more costly than UCI

UCI pros:
less costly than UCD
Zootwheels
Beautiful
Closer to the city so higher job outlook (in my opinion)
more organized
facilities were better kept

UCI Cons:
Car seems to be more essential after first year

UC Davis is overall the better school in my opinion. Davis offers more and with it’s school spirit, Division 1 sports, more nightlife, and better atmosphere.

UCI is just clean… it’s really quiet on the weekends because it is a commuter school. UCI’s and Davis’ academics are around the same but it overall Davis offers more… Davis is worldly known for ecology, vet, animal science, and anything environmental related. UCI is just a well rounded school not really strong compared to other UCs.

Davis is more “prestigious” because people know it very well. And being close to Sacramento and San Fran you’ll easily find a job and internship. UCI or Davis you need to try hard to get the job in the first place and there is lots of opportunities in Davis.

Saying that the academics are the same… I think Davis is a better choice because it offers so much more college experience with school sports and spirit.

The funny thing about UCI is that they designed the buildings so the students will interact in the middle of the campus, the “heart” of the campus but students just leave after class rather than stopping in the middle to socialize. Everywhere else Davis, SD, LA, Berk, SB, etc students need to go through the campus to get to their housing etc. So the Bruinwalk kind of forces the students to interact and socialize.

Does Davis have D-1 football or bball?

Yes! Both and a total of 24 Division 1 Sports!

[UC Davis Official Athletic Site](<a href=“UC Davis Athletics - Official Athletics Website”>UC Davis Athletics - Official Athletics Website)

and it’s good to know that Davis’ “Aggie Pack” is the largest student spirit organization in the NATION!

[The Aggie Pack](http://ica.ucdavis.edu/aggiepack/index.php)

Sorry, they are not d-1 in football or basketball. please name one bowl game Davis has played in. What year did they last make the dance in basketball? The football stadium looks like most high schools.

we ARE DI. but we are NOT in the FBS (bowl) division. we are in the FCS (champion) division. other than Cal and LA, we are the only UC to even have a football team.

also, our women’s bball team made it to march madness this year.

why would you even ask the question if you’re going to trash davis? haha. Sigh…

“The UC Davis Aggies (or Ags) compete in NCAA Division I sports in the Big West Conference. For football, the Aggies compete in Division I FCS (formerly known as Division I-AA), and are members of the Great West Conference, granting UC Davis the distinction of being one of only three UC campuses to field a football team (Cal and UCLA being the other two).”

& Berkeley doesn’t have a football stadium this year b/c it’s going through construction. Berkeley will be playing all their games @ somewhere in Oakland. So no “home” games this year.

“what year did they last make the dance in basketball?” u serious??

looks like popeyoung’s the davis board’s newest ■■■■■. awwwwww, that’s sooooo cuuuuuuute. LOL

I stand corrected. Stanford punched them out in the first round this year. That was the first appearance ever. How relevant is it with 0ne appearance in school history. Sorry, but FCS football is not d-1 football. Can anyone name the most recent fcs champion at any of the 9 levels? Was it a hyphonated or directional school? No one cares.

I bet hes going to uci x)

hermioneg,

I myself am an International Relations major at UCD, and I can speak for the amazing IR program that UCD has. UCD has a large International Relations major, with four different tracks/specialties within the major to choose from:

Track 1: World Trade and Development (more of a focus on econ and int’l trade)
Track 2: Peace and Security (my track! emphasis on peacebuilding, int’l conflict, etc)
Track 3: Global Environment, Health, and Natural Resources (sort of integrates the IR field with environmental issues–very relevant!)
Track 4: Peoples and Nationalities (think IR on a more anthropological/people scale)

Additionally, there is an Area Studies component of the major, where you take a few courses to learn about a specific area (Africa and the Middle East, East and South Asia, Latin America, Russia and East/Central Europe, Western Europe).

There are tons of student resources for IR majors. On campus we have the International Relations Student Association, where students get together and hear lots of speakers and discuss current events. There’s also Model UN, Roosevelt Institution, Nourish International, STAND (anti-genocide student group), and the list goes on.

The study abroad program at UCD is fantastic. I studied abroad in Israel through Davis Summer Abroad. Half of the students in my program were from other UC’s and a university on the East Coast, which speaks to the caliber of the UCD study abroad options.

Basically, UCD is amazing. Haha.

Please PM me if you have any more questions! :)
