UC Davis ranked too high!

Ucd: 1030-1280 68%
Ucsb: 1090-1310 53%
Uci: 1080-1290 60%
Ucsc: 1020-1270 80%

UC Davis is barely better than UCSC!!

but voiceofreason goes to ucd.

That reason makes about as much sense as his. They obviously don't only look at the admissions rates and the SAT scores. If so, why aren't you protesting the utter outrage that UCSB isn't ranked above BOTH Irvine and Davis >_>;;

then i should post this in case voiceofreason pretends these numbers are made up. voiceofreason will never admit that ucdavis students are far less qualified than ucsb/uci students and that ucsc students are at the same level as ucdavis students

student quality

uci=ucsb
ucd=ucsc

I'm glad that Davis is higher, but nevertheless, don't get so worked up over US News. Everyone already knows that rankings aren't accurate and places like Berkeley should be in the single digits.

Berkeley in single digits? No way.

Berkeley's 21 still oO;;

airportconnectio obviously has some sort of problem with davis. he or she has posted the same thing in at least 3 threads, if not more.

I fail to see why this is such a big deal...

holy crap you need to chill out, John Hennessy (pres of stanford) happens to be a relatively good family friend and he said that for the price davis is the best school out there, berkeley and LA may have been around longer, but you get the most for your money out of Davis...That's coming from the President of Stanford...so please...chill as long as you're in a top 50 you're fine.

why is davis the best school for the money? berkeley and ucla charge the same tuition as ucd.

i think LA and berk cost slightly more, either way, point is Stanford's president was going on about how Davis puts out better graduates than their ranking suggests.

UCLA's tuition is $7,038 (http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/budget.htm), Berkeley's is $4,192.25 (http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html#undergrad) and UCD's is $8,323.16 (http://facts.ucdavis.edu/current_fees_tuition.lasso)

SAT scores are not the only marker of school quality. I agree that the cohort matters, but it shouldn't be the only metric of student or school quality.

Berkeley's tuition on that site is according to semester. UCLA and UCD's are for the whole year. Berkeley ends up being pretty much the same as Davis.

I noticed a ? minor difference in some of the room and board.

As reported by Collegeboard
Berk $13,074
Davis $ 11,533
LA $12,312
San Diego $9,657
Santa Cruz $11,805

I didn't notice that, I was wondering why it was so low >.<, either way, UCLA's tuitions still manages to be lower and Berkeley's is pretty much the same, so I don't particularly agree that Davis is necessarily the best value of the three (Oh, and the second part isn't directed at you, Peppers).

@ Shrinkrap, UCLA and Berkeley are both located in cities where the real estate costs more, while Davis is located in well, Davis, so I think the differences are somewhat justified, and the differences aren't that substantial (roughly ~1k), though all the housing is incredibly expensive for such crappy dorms.

Davis - http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/Halls/New/default.htm
UCLA - http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.789d0eb6c76e7ef0d66b02ddf848344a/?vgnextoid=cd6024df52071110VgnVCM200000ddd76180RCRD
Cal - http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/rates.html

"UCLA and Berkeley are both located in cities where the real estate costs more, while Davis is located in well, Davis"

Understood; I lived in Westwood while at UCLA, and now live maybe 20 miles from Davis ( in the REAL cowtown). So maybe a part of the value is in cost of living?

^I would hate to live in Vacaville, ahaha.

But to be honest, you're going to get about the same education at most of the UCs, and to me, Davis is the perfect college town.

w/e either way, the point is Davis is a great school, it just hasn't been around as long as Cal or LA, and doesn't have the prestige yet.

Here's a fun activity. Rate the prestige of all the UC's on scale of 1-100, and the plot that against their age and see what the chart looks like. =)
