Daughter got an invite. I would like her to go. I think Davis is a great option for her, since she want’s to “work with animals” and the price is right! She is not excited; perhaps she thinks it’s too close ( 20 miles MAYBE) to home. Might this scholars day help or hurt the situation? Any other thoughts about the invite?

I've never even heard of this so I don't know what it is, but if she's never visited the campus before I highly recommend you take advantage of it. Visiting the campus made a HUGE difference for me.

Thank you.

I would absolutely recommend her going. Two years ago my daughter, who is now a sophmore at UCD (and loving it), got just such an invitiation. She had previously visited the campus and was not too enthusiastic about it ("too big", "smelly cows", etc.). We encouraged her to visit on High School Scholars Day, even though it meant missing a day of high school, and it completely changed her perception. The smaller and more intimate discussions and the testimonials from current students really had in impact on her. It made here realize that although the University was large, that did not mean that it was impersonal. Best college visit we ever made. She still talks about what a difference it made for her.

Thank you! That was really helpful.Do you know how they select students for this?

I also have a question. My daughter wanted to know if this meant that she was pretty much in for Davis. I told her I would take her to one of these sessions; she's wondering if it makes more sense to go to the April Open House if she's still in decision phase then.

My son also got an invitation, and one to a similar program at UC Berkeley. Anyone have any idea how they select students who receive invitations, or is it pretty much everyone who will be UC eligible? Thanks!

When my daughter got the invitation I talked to the person in charge of the program, as I didn't want my daughter to miss a day of high school if she didn't have a good chance of being accepted. He couldn't promise anything, but clearly they send invitations to students whose stats are a good match for the school. I recall that the total number of invites if fairly large, and they send them out to students all over the country.

If you have any questions I wouldn't hesitate to call the person in charge. The person I talked to (2 years ago) was quite helpful and willing to answer my questions.

I think that it is one of the best ways to see the campus, especially since you get free snacks and lunch. :-)

what was the cal program?

Thank you Homerj for your info.

Students are selected from information our campus receives; GPA, exam scores and interests; and we believe are an excellent student at our campus. This does not have an effect on the admissions selection process and doesn’t in any way guarantee admissions. We just feel that your student would be a perfect fit, academically and educational interests, at our campus and are encouraging them to come visit our campus if they haven’t do so already.

Looking for UCD Admissions--my daughter will be going to Preview Day this Saturday--I heard this morning from a friend that there will be a special Scholars section (10-12) at the event. Do you know if we can still sign up for that? By the time we got around to signing up for the regular Scholars events, they were all full.
Thanks
