I applied for financial aid for the Summer Session 1 and I did the “estimate your financial aid” and on that estimate it says that I have an unment need of 4,989 and “Your total Estimated Summer Financial Aid is $0”
I am a low-income student and will be taking 8 units. Anyone else on the same boat? I’m worried I will not get financial aid.

I’m also a low-income student, but I got $2000 in financial aid for summer session 1. Summer financial aid is also first come, first serve, so if it says $0, it means there’s no more summer financial aid available to be given out. The application first came out on April 29.

oh my god. Nooooo I’m screwed. Does it say 2000 in the estimate?

yeah, I got $2000 in the estimate and after I got my summer financial aid.

so you already received your disbursement? I thought it was on the June 14th when it gets dispersed?

I got an email from the financial aid office sometime before May 22 saying how my summer financial aid availability is ready to view. My MyBill account shows $4000 in financial aid ($2000 for summer session 1, $2000 for my summer abroad program). And actually, I get no disbursement, since all the $4000 will be used up. You only get disbursed if you have any financial aid amount left over after the financial aid office has applied it to your MyBill statement.

Oh okay. Yea I understand the disbursement, if I’m not mistaken we will have to pay about 500 dollars out of our own pocket to satisfy Summer Session 1 fees since they will give us 2000 dollars only.

What day exactly did you apply for the financial aid?

I just read on MyAwards that my package is being readjusted to reflect recent changes. Then I read on the summer session site that the offices will check each package based on the time they sent their app so I guess I will wait it out and hopefully they give me my financial aid because I applied last week.

I applied the same day that the summer financial aid application went out, on April 29th. Since I’m doing a summer abroad program through UCD, I needed to get as much financial aid as possible.

And how much they give you depends on how many units you’re taking and your current financial aid information, but yeah, generally around $2000 is what they give you (I got 2,800 last summer, though).

@ Cosmic: I applied last week, too, and I just got an email about accepting my Fin. Aid. I got three Fed Direct loan offers, but I don’t know what to do with them so I’m just leaving them there.

I checked earlier today, I’m not getting any grants. They said that grants ran out on May 12 and it was indeed on a first come-first serve basis. Oh well, it’s nothing, now I have to revamp my entire SUMMER PLANS. lol Applying to internships in LA relentlessly!

Yeah, it’s the same for me. The only form of financial aid I got offered are loans
