I just submitted my TAG application for UC Davis. I specified that I planned to take organic chemistry I and II in the fall and spring, respectively. They are not required for admission, but they are highly recommended. I am completely lost in organic chemistry. It’s so much material and I’m so behind. My chemistry series so far is below average. I have C’s in every chemistry class I’ve taken. This is my first time taking organic chemistry and I want to actually get a good grade. However, I don’t think I can do it. Can I drop this class or will doing so break my contract? I won’t know if my TAG gets accepted until November 13th. I really want to drop the class but I don’t know if I’m able to without breaking my contract. Does anyone know? Thank you.
Contact UCD admissions and get a definitive answer.
UPDATE: I thought I would post this in case anyone referenced this in the future. If you’re in the same situation, definitely contact the advisors at the school you’re transferring too. Each situation is different so it’s always best to ask. I dropped the organic chemistry class and my TAG was still accepted. I emailed advisors at UC Davis and was told that because organic chemistry was not required it would be okay if I dropped it. Also, dropping it wouldn’t affect my GPA, as you need to meet a GPA requirement to apply for the TAG. Good luck!
