UC Davis TAG question

So I went to my counselor today and I was very discouraged. He basically told me that my tag for Davis will be denied since I will be taking Bio(a required class for chemical engineering) in the summer. My tag application has a gap in one of the semesters so I put down an explanation of why I fell behind due to health issues and how I caught up all my classes except bio which I’ll make up for in the summer. Anyway, all I want to know, do you know of anyone or did you get your tag accepted to UC Davis in the past two years with one missing class? I have a strong GPA of 3.67

I don’t know what they actually do since I don’t work for UC, but the rules seem specific about this

That said, it may not be the end of the road. I remember a UC dean saying at orientation that students with problems should go to see him because “I enforce the rules, and I have the power to waive rules”.

I’d say you have nothing to lose by writing a letter to the Dean of Engineering explaining your situation and including a doctor’s note attesting to your health problems. If the only thing you’re missing is one Bio class perhaps she/he will allow your tag anyway.

Thank you so much!

What happens if I plan a class but don’t end up actually taking it. Just one class. Will my tag admission be revoked?

People have posted in time past about problems with TAG if they dropped a class. Again, with the caveat that I don’t work for UC, my advice is don’t list it on the TAG app. Here’s my reasoning. If you need it then obviously you can’t drop it. So it must be a class that you don’t need for TAG. So whether its on your app or not doesn’t matter for TAG approval. But look at what Davis says

Maybe they put the “extra” class in your TAG and it becomes a TAG contract issue, maybe they don’t. But if you don’t list it then its for sure that they don’t, and nobody is going to complain if you end up taking more classes than the contract requires.

@Marcizoub one last thing that I realize i didn’t make clear. If you are going to contact the dean, you need to do it now. The Davis website says they don’t consider TAG appeals, period. So the only way the plan could work is via preapproval by the dean.

Thank you again! Yeah I attempted to contact the dean yesterday but I noticed that its an “acting dean” since they are in the process of hiring a new dean of engineering. I guess i’ll still give it a shot but it’ll be a disaster if they switch the person before tag is approved.
