Hey guys, I am an incoming freshman to UC Davis majoring in Civile engineering. I really want to transfer to UC Berkeley after 2 years, how hard is this and any tips or pointers? Thanks for any Help:)

To be competitive for intercampus transfer and to minimize delays in graduation, you should complete the general education and major prerequisite requirements for your major at Davis prior to the end of your sophomore year. The UC reciprocity agreement allows you to use the requirements from Davis to fulfill the lower division requirements at Berkeley. You may still successfully transfer without completing the requirements; however, you may be required to comply with the lower-division requirements at Berkeley after transfer and that could prolong your time to graduation.

You should also complete your major prerequisites in order to be competitive for admission consideration.

Berkeley generally discourages intercampus transfer. Applicants with compelling reason for needing the transfer and those who have exceptional academic records and/or leadership potentials are more likely to be considered for acceptance.

Thank you so much Ms sun whoever you are lol Ive been reading your advice to students for a year now and you really have helped me.
I heard it is ridiculously hard to transfer from uc to uc, what can I do to get that affirmative edge??

get straight As

Is it really hard getting straight A’s at Davis?

It is super hard at any UC , especially when you are an engineering major

Out of curiosity, what about Davis makes you want to transfer to Cal? You said you were going to be an incoming freshmen, which indicated you hadn’t even started there yet. Or are you just simply following “prestige”? :)

Good question bro. Man when I visited Cal, I simply loved it! There was a protest going on, a concert, crazy people everywhere, just the atmosphere was totally me. I even appealed but didnt get in Prestige is just another excellent benefit but its mostly the school itself.
I was planning to do the JC route but decided I could settle for davis if I dont transfer to cal.

Dear Ms. …,
Just take a second and look back to freshman year, look at our maturity level, Look at our perspective of life, look at our perspective of love and compassion, and most importantly look at our thought process. It’s a bit embarrassing huh? Now take a moment and analyze yourself, look at how much our perspectives have changed. Yag dunya farq dara! With that being said, know, with complete contentment, that I see how much you’ve changed into the incredibly amazing young woman you have become today, trust me I see it. When I say amazing I mean it in the full context of the word. I seldom show or say anything because Im sure you have plenty of friends and admirers to tell you that now and in the forthcoming years, but they come and go, Im here to stay. Your leadership potential, “deepness”, intrigue for your dean, compassion for humanity, etc… was all proven to me in recent years and believe me I’ve soaked it in. You …, literally have anything a woman could wish for, whether it be spiritually, academically, or beauty wise, you got it.
Now its time to take it to the next level. Your going to enter college very soon inshAllah and you need to continue on the path you are on and not fall astray to anyone or anything. You are the epitome of a young Muslim woman and all eyes are on you. Everyone is waiting on you to make a difference in our family, community, world and I know you will not disappoint. You are the shining light of our household, you truly are, remember that.
Whatever you choose to do in life Im here for you 100% of the way because I am certain you will succeed.

HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY! May Allah bless you with many more.

Love, Your brother for Life,

Please ignore this, I had no other way to send this doc from my job, cant get on yahoo

^LMXAO EVEN STILL! WTheck!

@OP
you want to transfer because of protest and distractive atmosphere?

what is your major?

LOL I know right, now i dont even know how to delete it aha

But basically I love the activism, the feel, the overall vibe of the school, not to mention its top notch academics.
I shall be majoring in Civil engineering :)

oh yeah haha after like 30 minutes, the option to edit will disappear. perhaps PM a mod.

ohhh that makes a lot more sense now, berkeley = engineering.

That is quite, how do you say… stupid LOL Man you can tell im new here aha
You going to UCLA brodie?

When I was living down in the San Jose area, I would visit the UCB campus often. I LOVED the vibe at the school and the campus itself. The city of Berkeley is not for everyone obviously, but being from the NJ/NYC area I felt right at home walking around. I really am hoping to attend grad shcool there when I’m done here at UCD.

Somebody that understands percisely how I feel! Dont worry my man we will get to Berkeley as long as we work hard and have faith.

Disregard earlier posters.

I got into Berkeley, UCLA, and USC transferring out from UC Riverside. I had a 3.81 GPA when I transferred as a Chemistry major. Not sure if you are aware but Berkeley is rated #1 in the US for chemistry, and LA isn’t far behind at #16, so I say that I did pretty well for myself…

My point is, all this crap about UC-UC transfers being hard is bogus. Heres what you need to do in order to succeed at transferring…

1) Keep your GPA above a 3.8. The average admitted GPA for Fall 2011 at Berkeley was a 3.81 GPA. Sounds pretty scary, and it is. Man up and do it.

2) UC Davis is not going to be easy. UCR sure as hell wasn’t, and undoubtedly the competition at Davis will be higher than at Riverside. Really think about if you want the full 4-year Animal House college experience, or if you really just want to get the F*** out of Davis. For me, I knew from the day after I graduated high school that I was going to transfer out.

3) Major pre-reqs are all that matters. Do those and your good, don’t do those , and you’re f***ked.

hope this helps

Thank you so much Patrick for the straight forward answer! Im seriously gonna use this as my 3 step guideline.
I have just two more questions bro, should I meet with a Berkeley counsler?
And, do they look at other factors such as job experience, community involvement, school involvement, etc…?

Meeting with Berkeley counselors can be a hit or miss. Go ahead if it’s not a big hassle, but take everything you hear with a grain of salt.

Transfer admission focuses on grades and completion of your major prereqs/breadth. For Berkeley, demonstrated leadership abilities are favored. But nothing beats stellar grades and solid coursework.

Sorry to bring this thread back alive, but I am actually a freshmen right now at uc davis. Was highly set on transferring to USC in one year, but it’s looking like I am going to do a 2 year. I’m from the bay and family has gone to Cal so I’m highly considering it also. Long story short, I have a few questions if you guys can clarify.

Lala, how is your progress so far and is there anything new you have learned?

Patrick, did you transfer after two years?

3 And both Patrick and Ms. Sun, when you say complete your major/breadth reqirements, are you talking about my major at Davis or the pre reqs for our intended major at Berkeley?

I’m a current international relations major at UC Davis and would double major in Economics if I stayed here. My reasons to transfer are to matriculate into business school which davis does not have for undergraduates.

Thank you.

@thebaycity, major prereqs for Berkeley. Completing the major prereqs for Davis doesn’t help you with admission to Cal.

Keep in mind that Berkeley actively discourages intercampus transfers, so you have to weigh the consequences of not completing the major prereqs for Davis if you end up staying (although the major prereqs should align, at least partially).

What is some examples of “compelling reasons” to transfer from UC to UC?
