Hi, I am a high school senior, anxiously waiting for acceptance/rejection letters coming this March. My top two school choices are UCB and UCD.

I am not a very competitive student - I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA and 1940 SAT I scores, and ranked 19/287. UCB is my dream school. I've lived in their dorms for two summers and took classes on campus through the Upward Bound program, and I live only 15 minutes away from it, but I do not want to be surrounded by cutthroat competitive students.

Housing is also a very important issue to me. If I go to UCB, I will be forced to live at home - which I especially do not wish to do because my mother died in this house (long story). If I go to UCD, I will be getting a one-bedroom apartment.

I want to go to UCB for prestige, but I want to go to UCD for a new start and new life.

If accepted to both, I was wondering which school has a better pre-med program, and which school would be better for me to get into med school?

I applied to UCLA, but honestly, I do not want to go there because I am unfamiliar with the environment. If I go to UCD, I will know some people and have a bit of a start. I am not very "sociable," and it's really difficult for me to make friends :/.

Visit both and go with your gut, but I would think twice about taking any loans to live at UCD when you can live for free (?) at UCB. Save your $ for med school.

I've spent a lot of time at UCB through a program with my high school, and I have visited UC Davis on tours + while my brother went to school there. I like both environments, but I just want to know which is better for my future in medical studies :].

I just got the acceptance e-mail from UCD. Very short and to the point, it wasn't as glamorous being accepted as I thought it would have been xD.

I’ planning on switching majors from chemical biology to integrative biology because chem/bio major is taking a toll on my GPA. Im currently in my first semester and have felt the might of CHem4a, and I hate it. I thought it would be a good premed major like the course description said, but it’s full of quantum mechanical concepts that are too difficult for me to work with no matter how hard or much I study. However, the prestige and research opportunities that come with this college are huge.

I looked at integrative biology and saw very medical relevant classes like human physiology and zoology. What do you think I should do as a pre-med. Looks like stuff I’d really enjoy, no major quantum physics or abstract concepts. Please respond ASAP.

My DD did IB instead of MCB because there was more freedom and it allowed her to fit in the right classes, still study abroad and graduate on time. She has several interviews so far, I don’t think any one outside of a gunner at Berkeley is really going to care which science major you do. Do the one that is good for you and your learning and your experience and yes, your GPA. A tough major like Chem Bio is only a benefit if you love it and do well. If you get a 3.0 no one is going to give you a 0.5 GPA bump because it is a tough major
