I got into both for animal science and I’m just wondering which campus will people recommend base on that major. I’m hoping to look for opportunities and perhaps hands on experiments such as working with animals. I know both campus are isolatedish… which I don’t mind. Also, since I want to become a veterinarian, I’m just wondering, which school is easier in terms of grades and which school prepares you more for a vet grad school?
Thanks (:

I think UC Davis is the school for you. It already has a veterinary medical school, unlike cal poly. And, it has much more research opportunities since its a UC.

[Welcome to the University of California, Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital](Veterinary Hospital)

I heard slo will have a vet school real soon. My friends d is going to slo for that reason. I also heard slo will not let you change majors.

Why go to Cal poly when it’s “going to have it real soon” when Davis is worldly known for their vet school? If anything Davis excels in vet and agriculture. And you’ll love it at UCDavis! It’s in a college town and it’s beautiful.

For animal stuff, Davis can’t be beat.

Seriously, for things with fur and hooves, and wings and the like, UC Davis is not just the best in the US, it’s arguably the best in the world, with an international reputation. So if prestige and setting yourself up for grad work in this area is your goal, it’s UCD hands down.

However, Cal Poly will be less expensive (assuming you are in-state), and they are an excellent school also. I do not know personally, but I’d guess that SLO might be a little easier to get higher grades, as UCD has a reputation for being very competitive in the life/animal sciences.

Best of luck

Also consider that you may end up in vet school at Davis… do you want to live there for 8 years or live in SLO for 4 and Davis for 4? Sometimes a change of scenery is nice!

I agree that Davis is the school for your field, but you might get kind of tired of it after 8 yrs. On the other hand, if you like to ski… definitely go to Davis!

Davis… hands down.

congrats on your admittances! i am currently a junior in high school and am interested in both of those schools for the same reason as you.
if you don’t mind can you tell me your stats?
thanks and congrats again!
