I am a biomedical engineering major and I can't decide! I love the small class sizes of cal poly slo but I don't really like the isolation of the town. Davis has a good reputation and alot of GEs to choose from but huge class sizes. Please help?!?

I have heard that Davis is very good for BME.

Both of the schools have great engineering programs. I’m biased towards Cal Poly because I go there but remember that the town isn’t really isolated! Everything you need is right there and you never really run out of things to do.

They are both highly regarded for Engineering. You have to decide which situation will best fit your learning style and educational objectives: Small classes but fewer GEs to choose from or more GEs available but with large classes.

Are you more interested in the biology or the engineering? If it’s biology, UCD is much better than Cal Poly. Their biomedical engineering degree isn’t yet ABET-acredited, but they’re aiming for accredidation in 2012. If your interest is more on the engineering side, Cal Poly has an advantage, but their biomedical engineering dept is quite small. If you want to go on to graduate school, UCD will be a better choice because you’ll get a better foundation in theory there. If you want to go to work straight out of undergrad, then Cal Poly will teach you practical skills that will serve you well. Both are good schools, but I think UCD is better for this specific major.
