I am accepted in both davis and irvine. I will be pursuing CS as my major and I am an international student. Which of them would be a better choice in terms of academics and research opportunities.

Please comment. I am really confused.

Both have strong research opportunities. Irvine is the tech capital of Orange County although it’s quite easy to be engaged with research done at UC Davis.

I am in the exact same dilemma. My current understanding/assumption is that UCD might be better for jobs as it is closer to SF and Silicon Valley which have more jobs in comparison to LA.

Out of the 2 Universities which one has a more respectable CS course

please reply

UCI is ranked 29th while UCD is ranked 34th though in my opinion that difference is too small in order to make a decisive decision. They are both basically at the same level when it comes to the CS course however UCI does have an entire school for CS which could serve as an indication of how serious CS is taken there. I think you should look at the other factors revolving around your decision because either way your are going to get a great education in CS.

UCD has better over all ranking than UCI

At UCD, you will be competing against students from Stanford and Berkeley for jobs around NoCal. It comes down to which school you feel yourself at.

I don’t think there is enough of a difference in ranking for one over the other. You should really look at the campus atmosphere. Davis is very much a college town, very big on bicycles, close enough to Sacramento and Silicon Valley to have good connections. Irvine is more of a commuter school and is in Orange County so has a lot of tech connections. Academically either is good but the atmospheres could not be more different

Irvine is better for CS. I’m a senior at UC Berkeley and know both Davis and Irvine quite well. Program is well put together and you have great professors (we used some books written by a UCI professor).

I’d go to Davis because I prefer a college town and I like Davis. Irvine seems like more of a commuter school although I understand a lot of students live there. The social activities for UCI seem to be as much in Newport or in other areas as on campus, from an outsider’s point of view. (I have seen that posted by students there, but I am not one, myself.) My sons and I really did like Davis when we visited and at least one of my sons is likely to end up there. They both like Davis over UCI but neither are CS majors, which may make a difference. You really need to visit both if you haven’t and see where you like being most. The feel is very different.

Both are good schools. It may just come down to where would you rather live?

@hoppersreet Your comment means a lot to me.
