UC Davis vs. Mills College

Right now Im deciding between the two

Davis is a huge research university with tons of resources
pros
resources
research opp
special programs -EOP, biology honors, etc.
cons
large classrooms
hard to find professor

Mills College-all womens small liberal arts college

pros
all women
ample teacher student contact
small classrooms
cons
not enough resources for my major but can cross register with UC Berkeley (not sure what the limitations are)
not as well known as davis
(not sure how hard research opp. are to find) but definetly not as davis

So just give me some opinions about what you think, thanks

Comparing a research Uni with a small (women’s) LAC ain’t easy. Typically, its easier for undergrads to get involved in research at LACs bcos there aren’t any grad students around to compete for faculty time. Of course, if the Mills department in your interest is small, then its research opportunities is also likely small.

Pro: Mills has a beautiful campus.

Cons: 1) It’s located in East Oakland, one of the highest crime areas of the State. 2) To get off campus, you will need a car since there is little to walk to nearby. 3) Cross registering maybe easy, but commute hassles make it not-so-easy to attend classes (and study sessions) at Cal.

Visits both, adn ask lotsa questions.

I’m kind of in the same boat, Mills vs Berkeley (or Mills vs UofU if Berkeley rejects me next week).

I believe you can cross register for one class per semester at UCB or many other colleges in the Bay Area. They might be willing to let you cross register two classes depending on the situation.

There is a shuttle that runs all day on weekdays (and maybe Saturday), but I think only once per hour, between Mills and Berkeley.

Ultimately, I think I will choose Berkeley over Mills, and maybe Mills over UofU, since Berkeley offers the major I really want - Geography - and Mills offers the 4+1 Masters of Public Policy which I can finish in 3 years (I’m a transfer student). It is really hard to decide between a large, less expensive research uni and a small, all women undergrad LAC, that’s for sure. Both offer amenities and experiences that are unique to each, but both also have problems.
