Does anyone have any insight into the UC Davis - Applied Chemistry major and UC Irvine - Chemistry major programs. These are currently D23s top choices.
Assuming you are familiar with campus location/vibe and have or will visit before the decision, I like to compare schools by looking at their curriculum, also class size and electives.
What is his career goal as a Chemistry major?
UCD offers 2 emphasis under their program: Environmental or Forensic

UCI’s Chemistry program offers more emphasis options.
-Optional Concentration in Chemical Biology
-Optional Concentration in Chemistry Education
-Optional Specialization in Environmental Chemistry
-Optional Specialization in Medicinal Chemistry
-Optional Specialization in Nuclear and Radiochemistry
-Optional Specialization in Synthetic Chemistry
-Optional Concentration in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry
The culture and vibe of the two schools is very different.
One of my kids applied to the program at Davis. This was a few years ago. I remember looking up how often the upper division courses she was interested in were offered and the ratings of the professors teaching them. I used Rate My Professor to look up ratings. RMP is kind of like reading Amazon or Yelp reviews. You need to take some with a grain of salt.
