Hey, guys. So right up to this point, I've been accepted to the previously mentioned schools. I'm not quite sure which I choose. I'm a business major and I've heard that Davis is generally known for being big on agriculture and pre-med studies while I've vaguely heard that Riverside has a decent business program. I think the general consensus would be that Davis is regarded as a better school overall. Also, I've been rejected from UCLA and will most likely be rejected from Berkeley as well (also waiting/too scared to check on Berkeley as well as Irvine). Another thing is that I'm a transfer student (third year at a CC) so I've kind of been yearning for that obscure "college experience" everyone keeps talking about--if I had the chance, should I live in the dorms or not? With other transfer students? Riverside's intent deadline is in early may while both Davis and Merced aren't until June. If anyone can weigh in on anything with any tidbits that would help me, I'd appreciate it tremendously.

I got into all those schools too. I’m a transfer from a cc majoring in psychology. I don’t know anything about UC business programs but if you hear one is better than the other, you should go to the better one. Right now my mind is set on Davis. I would definitely live in the dorms with other transfers.

Are we going to be roomies? I’ve always wanted to be a golden bear or a bruin. I’m reluctant to wait any longer to transfer with most people getting their degrees by their fourth year, I could still be at a CC…but a dream is a dream.

We can, I have no idea how room mate selection works. I see where your coming from. I had my mind set on irvine which hasn’t denied or accepted me yet. I didn’t think I was going to get into Davis so I didn’t even bother putting the campus on my fafsa list. Good luck with your decision.

A couple of things to consider: besides Cal-Haas, Riverside has the only other full-service undergrad biz program. Irvine is ramping one up, however.

For undergraduate experience, I’d put Davis far ahead of Riverside. What is your chosen major at D?

I was at Merced recently and it’s not like any other UC. It’s a small, pretty campus (felt very intimate) but it doesn’t have that big university feel. Construction is ongoing and it’s in the middle of wide open fields. You can see flatlands into the distance. I could see someone who wants a smaller college atmosphere liking it there, but you should probably visit before choosing Merced. Academically speaking, Merced has not built itself up to the level of other UCs.

yeah, bluebayou that’s one of the things i’m concerned about/ as far as applying, i have a business background so it’d probably be managerial economics at davis. copterguy, i know…i’ve lived in merced my entire life and am currently transferring out of the CC there haha.

econ, much better IMO. It’s a liberal arts degree. Work for a couple of years, and then get you mba.

Good luck.

just to clarify, blue, you’re suggesting that i go with davis and its manangerial economics right? lol i’m dense. would there be a lot of appeal to mba programs with that type of degree?

Davis is a TOP 50 school in the Nation. GO THERE.

I think bluebayou was advisiing that you just do the regular econ major. Apparently, broad business majors, such as managerial econ, do not impress employers as much as specific business majors (finance or accounting). The regular econ major is probably more applicable and better for the job market.

fliqer, apparently riverside is too according to [Top Public Schools | Rankings | Top National Universities | US News](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public/page+2) lol

That list is top 50 PUBLIC - UC Davis is top 50 private or public! Both are good don’t get me wrong but UC Davis is a top half UC - UCR is near bottom.

And by the way UC Davis is top TEN on that list! haha

can you show me where you got your ranking from?

Davis is generally considered head and shoulders above Riverside and Merced.

UCR is still top 100 and is growing in popularity. If you’re from Socal and want to be closer to home it might be better, especially because you’ll be studying Business Admin rather then Econ. UC Davis isn’t for everyone…my friend went there and hated it, but I hear others love it. You should visit both before making a decision.
