Aside from engineering or sciences, how do these two compare? They are ranked similarly overall if I recall correctly.

Give me the pros and cos of each. Thanks.

Give me the pros and cos of each. Thanks.

UCSB
Pros: Weather, Social Scene, Soccer, Location, liberal arts program, Dorms on the Beach
Con: Hideous campus, party reputation, Hideous campus, Isla Vista is a little shady, Hideous campus

Davis:
Pros: Funding, campus, location b/t SF and Mountains, well rounded major choices, D1 football school, college town, the Arc, massive hiring to the Bay Area
Cons: Social Scene (not bad, but not as good as SB's), no larger cities extremely close by (as in SB, but Sacramento is close), not a "Liberal Arts School" as SB's strength in the UC system

UCSB has a hideous campus? really? i respect ur opinion and all, but really?
The whole beach front campus, dorms on the beaches, weather all contributes towards the campus beauty in my opinion. I mean ok, its not an ivy league looking school but since when have u ever seen a ivy leage looking campus facing the beach with dorms on the beach? I actually think the campus is pretty nice.
UC Davis im not sure.

I'm not too familiar with UCSB, but I have been to Davis.

Pros: Amazing school spirit (people seem to really love their school there), nice, wide open campus with lots of new buildings and grassy areas, good academic support for students of all majors, excellent placement of students in graduate schools, the ARC definately, everything you really need is close by and is only a 5-10 minute drive down the freeway from campus
Cons: It's rural, if you're not into that kind of thing, it can seem isolated since it's a little a ways from any major cities, freshman are not allowed to have cars, some buildings are really, really old

Hope this helps. :)

I have been to both campuses.

UC Santa Barbara
Pro- The weather, good social scene, soccer, pretty campus (I don't see what's hideous about it? Now Cal Poly SLO- that's an unattractive campus especially their dorms), the beach, good study abroad program, nicer dorms than Davis IMO
Con- party rep, no microwaves in the dorms (don't know about Davis), people are less into sports, except the soccer team

Davis:
Pro- nice campus, slightly better reputation, really into sports, very "chill"
Con- in the middle of nowhere, less of a social scene, crappier weather, dorms are uglier IMO, freshmen can't have cars

Everyone rides bikes in both uni's but you basically have to at Davis when you could get away with walking at SB depending on your dorm.

I think it depends on personal preference and how you feel about the colleges when you visit them. I visited both and I've decided on Santa Barbara.

Thanks, please keep them coming!

Sorry -- hideous was kind of harsh. I went to UCSB's open house yesterday and was really hoping to fall in love with it -- and I didn't. It was a cool and cloudy day and I was totally surprised to see the numerous trailers on campus and the paint peeling off buildings. However, compared to most other UC's, UCSB's location is unbeatable. The school is RIGHT on the beach -- which is fabulous! The student guides were great and obviously love UCSB.

I visited UCD a couple months ago, and although their is no comparison regarding location, I liked the campus much better.

Good Luck with your decision -- it is a win win situation!

Farm vs. Beach.
