UC Davis without TAG?!

Hello. I wanted to know the chances of getting into UC Davis without the TAG.
I qualify for TAG, I'll have the GPA and everything set by the end of this summer. However, I was not a full time student this spring semester and that disqualifies me from the TAG. Exceptions are possible and I'll explain my circumstances, but just in case, I wanted to know.

My major is Biotechnology and I'll have a 3.28 GPA by the end of this summer.

Anyone get in without the TAG? thanks

It depends on how impacted that major is, but a good GPA will help regardless. I recently got rejected with a 3.0 for history, so if you are applying this fall, take some easy courses in the summer to boost your GPA.

thanks moosedog! you didn’t have tag right?

I did, but it got voided after last fall.

Make sure you get as many As as possible in your summer and fall classes, complete IGETC and major pre-reqs. Then, you should have a fairly good chance.

Take some humanities and PE courses if you want to boost your GPA.

thanks everyone! :D

You can TAG to elsewhere… UCD is the only UC that wants full time during spring… I dont see that on UCI and UCSD TAG…

I think UCI would be a good alternative to UCD if I the whole part-time/full-time thing doesn’t work out. UCSD’s TAG is now a 3.5 for all 2012 applicants, I doubt I’ll be able to raise it THAT much haha. Possibly a 3.4 though. UCI vs UCD. What’s your take on it?

I agree with the others. Biotechnology is competitive so you’ll definitely want to boost your GPA to be more competitive.

I think UCD is better for bio than UCI, but not by much.
Also, 3.28 is not that high, but I’m pretty sure you will have a decent shot next year since they are going to be more stringent about TAGs.

I believe UCI doesn’t have biotechnology as a major (I think only UCD has it out of all the UCs) and I believe UCI only has a tag for general bio, which isn’t the same. I’m in a similar major as you and applied to UCD as a biochem major without TAG and was accepted. My gpa was 3.93 though so that information doesn’t help you much…

UCI vs UCD is all location IMO… if you like NorCal, UCD, if you’re a SoCal guy, then UCI

It would definitely help if you had a higher GPA but try to TAG. I didn’t get to TAG Davis and I got rejected. I’m a psych major and my GPA was 3.4

In the last admissions cycle, there were as many TAG applicants as there were acceptances the year before. It means that they were forced to severely limit the number of non-TAG acceptances but rather deferred the qualified applicants to their newly created wait list. The acceptance rate for these people will be unknown for a while but, if you can, TAG.

I was accepted to Davis for Fall 11, and I was a part-time student last spring. I applied for TAG for Davis and had it rejected. I had to totally kill it summer and fall semester though, overloading on units to get IGETC certified, meeting most of my major pre-reqs, raising my GPA, showing an upward trend, etc.

So it’s totally possible to get into Davis without TAG.

I can bring it up to a 3.56 by the end of this summer.

…what discourages me from doing this is that full time spring-2011 provision. I feel like I’ll bring it up to a 3.5, yet still not get in haha.
