UC Davis Young Scholars Program 2009

Hello!

Just wanted to know if people here applied to UCD-YSP this year. The deadline's almost up, so I'm wondering how many people still need to send in their online applications. =]

I went last year!! Aw, it was so awesome. :)

that's cool! I'm kind of wondering how they choose the people who go there. did you do a lot of science olympiads or science related activities? I mostly do math-related stuff, but I really want to start shifting my focus towards the sciences. Were most of the people who went last year really active outside of school?

anyone else apply for this program or participated in previous years? I'm really curious about it. =]

has anyone received their postcard verifying their application has been received yet??

also if i can’t remember my code, how am i supposed to know if they selected me when results come out later?

hm…I think they start sending out the postcards after the application period closes (today). Also, if you check your email, you should have been sent an application status update of some sort with your code on it. =]

Oh wow, according to the website, there were 207 applicants this year. How many applied last year?

no idea…i think i saw somewhere on last year’s thread that it was around 500?? so maybe this year’s got off lucky…

oh, i found that thread. hm…seems like they just looked at the registration numbers. But mine was in the 300s…so maybe it wasn’t really that many?

either way, I hope we both get in ^^.

yeah i hope so…do you have any idea how competitive it is?

40/207 i realize, but what do “successful” stats look like?

lol amazing timing.

um, not sure. i just got my postcard, and i was thinking about that too. like do you have to have done some sort of research? or compete in science olympiads? i do a lot of math competitions and other extracurriculars, but not anything really heavily related to science.

man i have not received my postcard and i live near UC Davis.

Hmm i am not sure at what they specifically look at but i am guessing they want to know if you have done something science related recently like over the summer or because of a club in your high school.

They just made decisions! And I got in!!! yayyy

my registration number was 9387 =DDD

i’m so excited, i can’t wait! did you guys get in?

Hey rsngdmns, are you a sophomore or a junior right now? In addition, are you a resident of California or are you outside of California?

Rejected i don’t know why either my app was really good too.

Hey you guys! I got in to YSP…but for anyone who’s done it b4, if you don’t like your project/mentor, can you switch?

dont you still have to pay $5000 for it???

waitlisted…

@sephora2: waitlisted =( there will likely be people with other plans who will drop out…it seems to happen to a lot of programs.

@tofuisgood4u: I live outside of Cali, and I’m a junior.

@gle: there should be financial aid for it…i think.

I got my acceptance stuff today. Seems like it was a lot less competitive this year. I’m not sure whether or not I’m going because I’m still waiting on COSMOS, which is coming out in May. They need to have the conformation before April 24… -_____-
im not sure what to do. its quite expensive too. has anybody gone to this program before? I think id prefer to go to cosmos, but im afraid i might not get in. then im screwed. lol. any opinions on which is better?
