I think it says April 17th on the website. Anyone know about the 200 limit? It’s killing me!

LOL dude it’s definitely words not characters. I put 200 words for mine.

200 characters is this much: “This is a sentence. I like cheese because it is yellow and yellow is my favorite color. Yesterday I went strolling through the park and I watered my garden. I’m such a silly funny bunny. I like to dance.” You definitely would not be able to say anything with 200 characters… so logically it has to be words.

HAHA your example^
Thanks, I feel a little better. 1 day left…

The results are already up online! You can check using your user ID.

rejected… knew I should NOT have gotten my hopes up.

@magnificent6 Me too. Well, that just ruined my day and week… and my summer. Thing is, I’m probably going to feel like this again (except for multiplied by 100) when I get rejected from my dream college(s) in a few years. I really shouldn’t ever keep my hopes up for anything I’m really excited about, it’s only going to make things worse in the end.

Congrats to everyone who got in.

I agree with you and congrats to all! The e-mails were just sent out.

@magnificent6 Total insult to injury lol.

Well… in the last hour I have pretty much moved passed the five stages of grief (except for the fact that I’ve been listen to Bad Day on loop for an hour straight). So… Now that that’s out of my way, I think I’m still going to apply to YSP next year.

You can’t really be too far down on yourself though. There only about a 10% acceptance rate, anyways. But congrats to those select 40, this program is definitely great (even though I’ve yet to experience it) so kudos to you!

I’m in! Woohoo! Can’t wait to meet some of you guys!

Ya I should’ve applied when I was a sophomore, but I’m just curious as to what the flaws of my application were. I mean I know there were some. But ya, I guess maybe cause I’m taking pre-calc as a junior? Haha whatever I’m just curious cause I want to know how I can improve my app for college. @WishUponThisStar did you apply to any other summer programs?

Congrats!!!

I’m in, too! I’m waiting to hear on some other programs, so I’m a bit worried about the $2000 deposit that’s due next Tuesday. @Katcampagna, are you deciding between YSP and any other programs?

@awsciencegeek I applied to a COSMOS at UCSD, but this was certainly my first choice! I hear back from COSMOS on the 20th, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be spending my summer in Davis!

@Katcampagna Awesome! Hope to see you there!

Could any alumni shed some light on how projects are assigned?

i’m on the alternate list. anybody from previous years, do i have a chance of getting in?

Congrats to everyone who got in! YSP > COSMOS, just saying. (I’ve gone to both programs before) though COSMOS isn’t too bad either.

If you didn’t get in, don’t beat yourself up over it! Admissions are so competitive… Also, don’t think that a rejection from one summer program means there’s no hope for any other program or college. Each program is looking for different experiences and traits in the applicants. You might be ideal for one program but not what another program is looking for. I know people who’ve been rejected from YSP but gotten into Ivies.

@awsciencegeek, after you accept the offer, sometime before the program starts, you’ll get to rank your preferred research areas from a long list. Not guaranteed that you’ll get your top choice; there are usually at least several botany projects because Davis is awesome in plant sciences, but just keep an open mind whatever topic you get and you might end up really loving it! You’ll find out what area/topic you were assigned at the beginning of the program.

@ilovescience2, at least two people last year got in from the wait list.

@archaic - Thanks!

@archaic good to know. thanks!
