UC Davis?

Hey everyone! I have narrowed down my colleges to UC Davis and Gonzaga. I wanted to go to UCSB but i got waitlisted. :frowning:
If i go to Gonzaga i am going to study nursing. If i go to UC Davis, i have no idea what i will be studying, but i will probably explore a bit before choosing a major.
What do you think i should do? I am really conflicted.
Also do you guys know anything about the social scene at Davis? Does their tend to be parties on Friday and Saturday nights? I know college is about studying and getting an education and i am prepared for all the work but i also would like to have a little fun. What do you guys think about the Social Scene at Davis/Gonzaga? Which is better? Whats the difference? Any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much! :)

If you go down Frat Row (in front of the Segundo dorms), I’m sure you’ll find some parties. But really, the social scene depends on you. I’m generally a reserved person and would rather just prefer to hang out with my roommates so I don’t really experience much of a social scene. Others, like the girls who live in the room above mine, are really social and like to throw parties and blast music every Thursday-Saturday (and unless it’s quiet hours, the RAs don’t really care).

ok, good to know!
Are Segundo dorms the best, social wise? Or which would you recommend?

I don’t know all that much about Segundo, since I live in Cuarto, but I’ve heard that many people rate Segundo 1st, Tercero 2nd, and Cuarto 3rd. It’s harder to make friends in Cuarto because people are more comfortable making friends with their roommate/suitemates (and you’re out of luck if you don’t like any of your suitemates), but it can be managed–for example, my former roommate (we didn’t have a problem with each other, but she did have to leave for personal reasons) made friends with everyone in my building on the first day.

Oh ok! Thanks so much for all the helpful information! So are you enjoying Davis so far?
Its so hard to make a decision!! What other schools were you deciding between?

not sure if you realize that davis has a nursing school

Yeah, but this is a graduate nursing program. At Gonzaga, there is an undergraduate nursing program, so i would be a RN after i graduate in 4 years. The nursing program at Davis is only to get your masters in nursing.

I personally would rank Segundo first (currently live in Tercero.) I honestly know nothing about Gonzaga, so I can’t comment on it. UC Davis has an okay party scene; frat row occasionally has fun parties, but they’re kind of a b*tch to get into (not to mention they’re just all around trashy.) Apartment parties are much better, but unless you’re good at making upperclassmen friends, you may have to wait until you’re a sophomore. You can definitely get away with drinking in your dorm if you aren’t too loud after quiet hours (which start at 1 AM on weekends.) There definitely is a party scene, but don’t rely on frats or strangers’ houses too much; you’ll have better luck if you put effort into finding like-minded people and getting invites to friends’/acquaintances’ parties.

I definitely really like UC Davis and would highly recommend it. The campus is nice, the people are friendly, the town is clean and welcoming, people work hard and play hard. I was deciding between UCSB (with honors), UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UCSD. UCSD had been my first choice, but after visiting Davis it felt like a better fit for me. You should visit both schools and see which one you can picture yourself at. UC Davis is a great place to spend four years, but only if you like the laid-back pace of a smaller town (with the occasional trip to Sac/SF.)

@JeSuis: Thanks that was super helpful!
I think i am going to go up and visit next week for my spring break! Do you know if you can do an over night stay at Davis, or is that not a thing?

Yep, there are hotels in Davis that you can check into. However, there is no overnight stays in the dorms unless you’re friends with someone living in the dorms and they let you sleep over (after consulting with their roommate, of course).

when is admitted student day. i was accepted but i wanted to know if there are several.

[Undergraduate Admissions : Decision UCDavis](http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/decision/) has all the information you should need for Decision Day :]

Yay, i just signed up for decision day! Hopefully visiting the campus will help me out a little bit.

I went to Decision day today and i REALLY liked the campus!
I think if i go to Davis i might join a Sorority so the social aspect is not really a concern anymore.
I am so conflicted on what to do now! Should i go to UCD and explore my options of majors or should i go to Gonzaga and major in nursing? I really like the idea of nursing but UCD is so much more well recognized of a school! Any opinions?

UC Davis is a wonderful place, but it seems like a shame to give up the option of earning nursing credentials as an undergraduate for it. I volunteer at a hospital, so I’m biased (totally in awe of the nurses there), but when I’m there I keep hearing about how difficult it has gotten to get into nursing programs, both grad and undergrad. Gonzaga has a great reputation, especially on the west coast, and I’ve always heard such good things about it (yes, weather’s not as good)–and you’d still get a great education there even if you decided not to stay with nursing. I understand the pull of Davis for a California resident, though.

Thanks so much for the response! My drem is to become a neonatl nurse practitioner and I really think I can achieve that. Although i can still get there by going to davis, I think gonzaga is going to get me to that much faster. So I think bearing the cold whether for a few years is probably wwhat im going to do. I can always go to davis for graduate school nursing because I hear they have a really good program
I would still love to hear any other opinions as I am not 100% sure of my decision yet. Thanks so much guys!

My son was deciding between Davis, Univ of Portland and Gonzaga. He chose Gonzaga!!! While Davis is considered an awesome California school, Gonzaga gives the feeling that it really cares about the success of it’s students. We are from LA area, but my son is looking forward to the cold
Choose the best program or you and follow your gut

@mommydei, wow those were my top 3 too haha! Anyway, good advice. I am going up to Gonzaga this weekend for GEL, so hopefully that will help me make my final choice. Maybe i will see your son at Gonzaga next year!! :)
