Cali resident. Applying to any UC's out of state is pretty damn hard.

Hey ownownage, I am very interested in UC Davis! How is it going for you? Do you live on campus or off campus? Right now, I don't have a lot of stats to report, other than the fact that I have a 4.0 GPA, decent ECs so far, and I got a 1420 on the PSAT. I know it's not a lot to go off of, but if I stay on that path, do you think I'd have a good chance at UCD? Thanks! :)

sacramento, you could use UCD as practically a safety with those stats!
I applied with a 4.1 UC gpa, 29 ACT, 710 writing/630 math ic/620 world history with medicore ecs just to give you some prospective. I'm hoping for UCSB and UCD both great schools!

Thanks, UCaliGirl9... I appreciate it! :)

ownownage did u really get into both davis and ucsb?? im terrified im not gona get into either with my stats.....3.7 GPA 1230 SAT, and decent SAT IIs, lots of ECs. when did u get in??

wow thanks for the link dstark. Based on that info, I wrote up a PHP calculator to calculate points:

coolman25, I like your calculator. The UCs are not the same. The rumor last year was it took a little over 7500 points to get into UC Davis. Berkeley, UCLA, and all the rest have their own systems. Berkeley and UCLA are not explicit when discussing how they choose their class. It's probably a good thing they aren't all the same. This way, maybe somebody can get into UCSB after getting rejected from UC Davis and vice versa.

oh alright, thanks. I'll change that bit of info.

UCSD is tougher to get into than Davis. I keep reading postings where people say that Davis is a reach and SD is a match...not quite. For the UC system is it ranked as follows for the top 5.

UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCD
UCSB

dstark whered u hear the rumor about Davis' cutoff being around 7500? im curious! lol and dying cuz i want to get in.....if the UC system is completeley based off pt value, why require essays?????

Wow! According to that calculator, I'm in good shape. I got a score of about 10,000. I know it's not definite, but hey, at least it's a good estimate. Hopefully the 7,500 rumor is true for UCD... Thanks!

Somebody on this board last year didn't get in and called the school. I have no idea if this is true.

I got around 8,400. So does it look like I could get into Davis and SB? I hope :)

dstark, does the davis system take into account that SAT II's are worth twice as much as SAT I's, i looked at it, and there's 4000 points max for 5 tests (sat math, verbal, writing, sat ii math, subjectofchoice)

FYI: on another thread someone posted a link ( sorry , I don't recall where it is) to an article about the assignment of extra points in the comprehensive review at Davis. Most people do not get any extra points, apparently. They have fairly strict ( and limited) criteria as to what counts for leadership, perseverance, etc. UCSD calculates in community service... but Davis doesn't seem to have a specific category for that...

I don't think Davis doubles the value of SAT2s. With the new SAT1 test, everything is going to change. As Jeunger states, Davis is very tough when doling out extra points. As I remember it, you have to be a leader in three different things to get any points.

It's really impossible to predict where you'll get in. And the calculator only works for Davis, since that is the only UC I've seen that explains its point system. Also, Davis doesn't look at AP scores, while many other UCs do. I talked to a woman who scores applications at Davis, and she also talked about essays having an effect, which the point system posted doesn't take into account. I have seen some very random people at my school get rejected from Davis. But I also had a friend who appealed his rejection and got in. We really just have to wait until March.

Predictions are only predictions, but USCD is also fairly explicit in detailing their comprehensive review. For those who very clearly and undoubtedly meet the criteria for extra points, a calcuation could prove fairly accurate. My understanding is that at UCSD and Davis, admissions is based upon scoring and the essays serve to glean points in one of the review categories.

i also know someone who got into irvine, rejected from Davis and appealed and now goes to Davis
