Hi all, I’m a transfer student from a community college with a GPA of 3.92, and I’d like to know my chances to get into UC Davis for a major in Cognitive Science, with emphasis in Computer Science, and possibly a minor in Computer Science too. I’ve completed all the requirements for a transfer degree in Psychology and 90% for a transfer degree in Comp. Sci.(a total of 83 units)
Thanks for your reply, Gumbymom! I did not complete the TAG form yet because the only campus available to TAG was UC Merced, and it’s impossible for me to relocate near Merced. My first choice is UC Davis because they have a Cognitive Science program, my second choice is CSU (Sac. State), but unfortunately they don’t offer that major, and I’m not that interested in their Comp. Sci. program. Still, I’m open to suggestions. I’d love to read experiences in both universities!
I have no idea why I can’t TAG other than to UC Merced, but it’s the only option shown in my screen when I try to apply for TAG. I’ll ask about it in my counseling appointment next week.
Since I have guaranteed admission to a CSU, I’d rather go to Sac. State than UC Merced, which seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Maybe if I find other students at UCM who are happily relocated there, I’d change my mind.
I’ve submitted my TAG application, got an email saying notifications will be emailed between November 1 - November 15. I’m waiting to submit my transfer petition to CSU Sacto now. Thanks all for your input!
One thing that I didn’t get about the TAG application is that I entered 82 transferable units, but only 55 are shown in my screen as “Courses Satisfying UC Eligibility Pattern,” none of which are related to my major. Any clues as to why they seem to care about non-major courses only?
@Gumbymom this TAG was only valid for UC Merced (May 1st to May 31). As I said before, this is the only TAG currently available in my screen now, and I submitted the application. One option in the form asked whether I’m planning to apply to other UCs and I marked UC Davis as my other option.
Or is it that I can submit a TAG to just one UC?
UC Merced accepts TAG for Spring 2017 so that is why it was the only school listed, so you have applied for Spring transfer. In Sept, you will be to apply for UCD TAG Fall 2018 but you can only submit one TAG so not sure if Spring at one school and Fall at another would be possible?
In the beginning I’ve got really confused because I could not find any UCD TAG in the options. Now, that makes sense, those TAG options are only visible to you while they’re accepting applications. I think their transfer system is different compared to CSU, that allows people to complete their form throughout the year, even when you can’t submit the application yet.
I’ve graduated from CC with a degree in Psychology (AS & transfer degree with Honors, Fall 17’), but Cognitive Science requires extra Math and Comp. Sci. classes. So, this semester I’m taking Discrete Math, Data Structures, and a few others to fill the transfer quota of 80 (or 82) units. By Spring 2018, hopefully I’ll transfer with a 100% of a Psychology for transfer degree, and 90% of the coursework required for Computer Science. I’m guessing that it’s possible to graduate with these two degrees from CC and keep the total ~80 units if more careful planning is done (I wasted a few units in useless classes :P)
Indeed, now that makes sense. At first I’ve got really confused because UCM was the only option available to me, and unlike CSU, it seems that transfer/TAG forms are visible only when they’re accepting applications.
I’m pretty sure that I applied for UCM TAG Spring 18’, although there is still one option to withdraw the application from UCM in case I can’t submit the other one for UCD. I’ll have to confirm with my transfer advisor whether applying for Spring and Fall terms is OK, though.
I’ve got an update, I just talked to a transfer advisor and she told me I’ll have to withdraw my TAG submission from UCM because I’m allowed to TAG to just one UC, and I’m gonna TAG to UC Davis, of course! So, I think this is an important piece information for those who are applying to several UCs as CC transfer students. Thanks again!
